In 2021, I spoke at a Palestine Solidarity demonstration in solidarity with Palestinians who were being forcibly evicted from their homes in East Jerusalem.

At the end of a speech, in which I made clear the struggle for Palestinian rights was a struggle against racism, which could only be overcome through a united movement of black, white, Muslim people, Jewish people I said "globalise the intifada".

Intifada means mass civic protest against oppression and was made as a reference to the General Strike happening at the time which was called as peaceful protest.

When I ran for election as General Secretary, I was questioned about the use of these words by a number of news outlets. I was clear, I used them in regards to civic protest and oppose violence.

Recently, news outlets such as GB News have regurgitated what I said in 2021 - this has led to social media attacks calling me an Islamist and calling for me to be deported.

I have been unequivocal in my condemnation of the attacks on October 7th. Hostages must be released. We need a permanent ceasefire, an end to the bombardment of Gaza in which thousands of children have been killed, and unfettered humanitarian access to the Gaza strip.

As General Secretary I will always be clear that the NEU opposes injustice but does not support violence.

At their peak there were around 3000 sure start centres - a one stop shop for under 5s and parents - more than a thousand were closed in post 2020 austerity - others folded into other services. Now we have long term @TheIFS research that they paid for themselves

Those living near a centre performed up to three grades better than those further away.

Do teachers want to strike? No

Are teachers voting for strike action in our preliminary ballot? Yes in their thousands

Why? Because this government is purposefully denying schools of funds. Another unfunded pay award, that is below inflation will deepen the teacher shortage.

The shortage is leading to sky high workloads and record class sizes.

The current situation is unsustainable.

She’s suggested a meagre 1.2% to the STRB!

Last year’s 6.5%, squeezed out of her by collective action, barely matched inflation –despite being the biggest pay rise for decades.
