You can intentionally or unintentionally direct a puck with a deflection. If a goalie deflects a kick, it's no goal.

@Josh_G90_ @FriedgeHNIC It says "often". Many deflections are intentional, although that's not what matters here. Either he shot it into his own net or he deflected it into his own net. If he shot it, then it's a goal. If he deflected it, it's not. Sure didn't look like a shot to me.

Every deflection would therefore propel the puck. And we know a kicked puck cannot deflect in off the goalie's stick.
