@anna_finch20 I agree, this concept was definitely a theme we saw throughout the course. I believe empowerment is one of the strongest skills and assets when working in micro, mezzo or macro environments. #SOWK35021
@agottshall1 I agree! I think this was really highlighted in the Ted Talk about the street that was transformed into a community in which all the residents helped out one another. It is crazy to see the change human connections can create. #SOWK35021
I think one big theme was the importance of connections and "social capital" in communities. While many communities do not have the funding to help out, they can use the power of the people within the community to come together and really make a difference. #SOWK35021
@MadisonVitale2 I think rephotography is so cool because it connects the present and the past so clearly. It is definitely a great skill to have. #SOWK35021
This week I learned about gathering census data through QuickFacts. It is very useful as you can see a quick overview of a specific population/community and compare it with others. It can very beneficial in writing grants. #SOWK35021
@lng0007 I agree, the numbers of women who experience sexual assault in their life is astonishing and heartbreaking. Resources need to be more available. Awareness of the severity of this issue also brings conversations which can hopefully help bring these numbers down. #Sowk35021
While things seem to be looking a little better in the U.S. with the expansion of the vaccines, Covid-19 is still a prevalent crisis worldwide that continues to take many lives. Many countries are seeing an even stronger second wave of cases. #SOWK35021

@kay51894683 I really like the idea of living with only a few neighbors. It can still be close knit but there is possibly less noise and it seems peaceful.
@lexie88331736 This is similar to my neighborhood as well and probably many in Morgantown. I really like the mixture in mine because there are some more families and elderly. Everyone is super nice and waves when you drive by. It often makes me feel more at home.
The neighborhood in which I lived in the longest as a child was a cul-de-sac. It was really great and very helpful cause there were a lot of kids my age so we rode the bus together and became fast friends. It was lively and active as we were usually playing outside. #SOWK35021
@MadisonVitale2 This list is very informative in providing a perspective on the global issue of racism historically and currently. Their are examples of racism, information on how to combat racism as well resources. Great job! #SOWK35021
@gina_pisano This is a great list. It is very informative of the wide range of things that can be included under domestic violence. I found the information on what DV can look like for those with disabilities very interesting and appreciated the inclusion of the hotline! #SOWK35021
I created this lists to help to provide information on addiction and resources to those struggling, specifically throughout West Virginia. In looking for these resources I got a small look into how hard it can be to find help. #SOWK35021

@gina_pisano All these qualities are important. Especially empathy as it allows for better understanding and then communication. I agree leaders do keep things moving forward.
@kay51894683 I agree, a good leader needs try and be a role model. Being able to learn from others is also an important quality that I believe is often overlooked.
#SOWK35021 There are many characteristics needed to be an effective group leader. This article mentions some personal qualities such as confidence, integrity, empathy and active listening. As well as some goals of leader in group work such as improving motivation.
@FialaKendra Thank you for sharing this Tik Tok. Not only did is bring up colorism but also pointed to education. It is appalling how little of our countries full history is taught. Black history and the contributions made are important and need to be taught in schools everywhere. #SOWK35021
