@maddenifico The many billionaires tapped for jobs in the DJT administration will NOT be the panacea those who voted for him think. The ultra-wealthy do not concern themselves with matters of the working class. They are looking to capture “privatized” govt services as their own “business”.
The bill hits the floor with billions for war and zero for the 24 million people they priced out of insurance. This is deliberate. #HealthcareNotWarfare
PabloReports: What do you make of Pete Hegseth refusing to promote qualified women of color?
AOC: He’s an unqualified man in his role, so of course he’s threatened by women who are twice as good as he is.
There's a bill stuck in the Statehouse that would ban all child marriages in #Ohio
It's being blocked by Senator Rob McColley......who is @VivekGRamaswamy's running mate
3 years ago I wrote this piece for @TheAtlantic about why we mustn’t take public health for granted.
This is long before this admin’s deep cuts to public health.
With the massive Cyclospora outbreak, I couldn’t help thinking about my own warning from the past.
We're still asking questions about the @VivekGRamaswamy finance reports & what did @FrankLaRose do about it when. I make the case that it looks like Frank didn't do anything and this week we filed a public records request with his office to see if I am correct. Your move Frank.
wow -- Tillis eviscerates Vought about DOGE's fake budget cuts, accusing him of "word salad answers" and tells him, "My understanding is the last time you worked in the business world was at B. Dalton's books when you were putting yourself through law school ... I don't love the idea of DOGE shit we're picking up because people did it wrong"
In 1898, Wilmington, N.C., was a prosperous integrated city, where Black and white North Carolinians shared political power and leadership positions. But white supremacists took back control of the city's multi-racial government at gunpoint, and launched a wave of violence that killed scores of Black residents.
That little-known history is the subject of The New Yorker journalist Lauren Collins' new book, "They Stole a City." She talks with Lee Cowan about her hometown's darkest chapter – the only successful coup in our nation's history. https://t.co/sHjqbowZ1Z
Buttigieg: You can see it in the carnival of corruption that is Washington, D.C., today.
The leader of the free world flying around in a secondhand jumbo jet from a foreign country while he makes a billion dollars on crypto deals propped up by foreign leaders.
A Supreme Court saying that a president, even if he used the government to murder someone, could not be held accountable for the crime.
Nine out of ten House races drawn so that you know who’s going to win before the first vote is cast in a 50/50 country.
This is not an academic concern. This hurts us. This is why things aren’t working properly. This is how they can make you pay more at the pump for a war you never asked for, how they burned down the Department of Education while we’re worried about kids who can’t do math or read like they’re supposed to.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. And that’s what we’re here to do something about.
Murray: Is it true that people making under $184,000 pay a 12.4% Social Security tax rate?
Dahl: Yes
Murray: And the rate for someone making $1,000,000?
Dahl: 2.2%
Murray: So, a 12.4% tax for people making less than $184,000, but 2.2% for a millionaire or .0002% for billionaires.
Ossoff, to conservatives:
"Why are gangs of masked men... [in our cities] shooting people? What happened to 'Don't tread on me?' Are there any principled conservatives left?"
Good question.
Conservatives cannot claim a belief in liberty if they refuse to speak out against ICE.
One lesson of the Trump years: the US signature on an international agreement is worthless. There was an agreement in place to govern the bridge. Trump repudiated the agreement at behest of a donor with a direct anti-public-interest stake.
@MarkWarner@kharyp Just impeach DJT for his failure to staff the commission. If you think the laws Congress passes are vital to the functioning of our nation, then DJT’s failure to execute them is grounds for impeachment. Get this enemy of America gone, out of office. FIX IT!
It’s easy for the president to say everyone is doing great.
It’s easy to wave off the strain families are feeling at the grocery store, the gas pump, the pharmacy counter.
It’s easy to not care how Americans are actually making ends meet when you just raked in $2 billion in personal profits.
Drone warfare already changed modern combat, and Cuba's arsenal of drones deserves serious attention, not this theater.
As a retired Navy Commander experienced in electronic warfare and integrated air defenses, I'm more concerned that the Pentagon is still too slow to adapt to foreign forces rapidly fielding arsenals of low-cost drones. Losses in the first days of the U.S. attack on Iran exposed our vulnerability. We should already be accelerating low cost drone acquisition, counter-drone defenses, and operational doctrine.
Congress needs members who understand national security well enough to ask the right questions, not simply raise alarms after we fall behind. I've worked strategic planning in the Pentagon, fought alongside allied forces, trained NATO allies, and published on what it takes for the U.S. to keep the edge in defense.
Gimenez and the House Armed Services Committee failed to press the Pentagon for faster adaptation, leaving our troops at a lethal disadvantage.
NEW: I left the country for two weeks, and, as I wrote in my OUR LAND newsletter, being less engaged with our bonkers news cycle made it easier to see that we're drowning in a sea of stupid.

A luxury hotel in Ireland has cancelled a “retreat” for a secretive group of wealthy, famous and powerful people founded by billionaire Peter Thiel.
The Powerscourt Hotel was due to host a conference for Dialog in August – but called off the event after hackers released details of its membership and activities last month.
The invite-only organisation, founded in 2006 by Thiel and tech entrepreneur Auren Hoffman, was set to discuss preparing for a third world war, battlefield technologies, nuclear energy and how to build cults, according to a leaked schedule.
Guests would have included a Nato commander and senior Trump administration officials, the Irish Times reported.
Thiel is co-founder of Palantir, a spytech firm that has worked with Israel’s military throughout its genocide in Gaza and with US immigration agencies accused of severe human rights violations against migrants and people advocating for their rights.
Prominent Dialog members revealed in the leak include Texas senator Ted Cruz, US treasury secretary Scott Bessent, Israeli finance ministry economist Shmuel Abramzon, actor Josh Brolin, author Sam Harris and longevity influencer Bryan Johnson.
The Powerscourt Estate, which owns the land on which the hotel sits in Co. Wicklow, said it was “relieved and pleased” about its tenant’s decision to cancel.
“Following a period of great concern for Powerscourt Estate and on foot of discussions with the Powerscourt Hotel, we are relieved and pleased to announce the Dialog event planned for August at the Powerscourt Hotel has been cancelled,” it said in a statement.
“Powerscourt Estate wish to thank all of those who supported us through this difficult and challenging time. Including our staff, neighbours, friends, supporters and legal team.”
A hotel spokesperson confirmed the event had been cancelled, adding: “We have no further comment.”
