Will 2027 finally be the year Kenya realizes full constitutional gender representation? 🇰🇪💬
As featured in The Standard, our recent report, 15 Years On: An Evaluation of Kenya's Women Political Representation (supported by @FNFKenya), highlights that despite a transformative legal framework, women hold only 23.9% of parliamentary seats.
As our Executive Director @QueenterMbori notes:
"Implementing the rule should be a government priority... It is attainable. We can achieve it even without quotas, provided there is political goodwill."
With the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and constitutional amendment proposals on the table, political goodwill and enforcement are non-negotiable ahead of the 2027 polls.

From constant trolling and threats to targeted online abuse, the impact goes beyond the screen. Many women in media suffer stress, anxiety, depression, and even withdraw from journalism altogether.
KEG President Zubeidah Kananu:
“To every survivor: your story matters, your career matters — and you deserve justice, not just policies on paper. Newsrooms must be safe before the story breaks. Leaders, audit your policies. Staff, demand accountability. Silence is the enemy, but empowerment is our weapon. Together, let’s build newsrooms where voices are not buried, but heard, valued, and protected.”

As the media industry navigates the rise of artificial intelligence, does it empower journalism or undermine press freedom?
To commemorate World Press Freedom Day and shape the future of responsible, innovative media in the AI era, @MediaCouncilK has convened industry leaders to explore AI’s dual role, as a transformative tool and a potential risk.
Our Executive Director, @QueenterMbori, will join distinguished speakers to discuss the physical, online, and psychological safety of journalists, and the impact of AI on media freedom and ethical journalism. #WPFD2025

The panel shed light on how digital labor, often invisible and undervalued, had fallen disproportionately on the shoulders of women—particularly from the global South—who faced informal working conditions, little recognition, and systemic exploitation in shaping the very platforms we all use.
Panelists underscored the urgency of building a feminist internet, one that bridged the digital divide and amplified the voices of marginalized women across race, class, sexuality, and disability, so they too could access, shape, and thrive within digital spaces.
The conversation pushed beyond critique, calling for a reimagining of digital power structures—where women could lead, be fairly compensated, and co-create inclusive, community-centered online spaces through feminist tech leadership and policy reform.

Diving deep into public participation as enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution, let’s talk about how young people can take charge and make their voices count. What’s your take on the role of public participation in shaping our governance?
