Those undersea cables are out of sight, but they carry everything from banking to military traffic. That makes them a perfect gray-zone target. Cut a few, deny it, and suddenly everyone’s scrambling. #NATO#China#HomelandSecurity

🚨 A coordinated cyberattack targeted 30+ Minnesota water systems. One plant went offline.
Other cities reported communications failures and affected automated controls. Officials have not identified the attacker or how access was gained.

Cool new findings showing that mitochondrial biology is influenced by gravity.
Of the few things that change when cells and bodies leave Earth's surface, gravity seems sufficient to decrease mitochondrial gene expression. If mitochondrial gene expression decreases, it becomes harder for electrons to flow through the electron transport chain. And energy transformation capacity decreases, possibly increasing energy resistance: how difficult it is for food-derived electrons to reach oxygen in mitochondria.
This study follows earlier work in 2020 showing that mitochondrial changes are among the most robust changes that occur with spaceflight.

🚨🚨🚨 China-aligned attackers broke into the networks of US and Canadian universities to steal sensitive data and establish persistent access via webshells and backdoors.
The espionage-motivated attacks targeted physics and engineering departments, focusing on administrators and professors with national security links or organizations researching astrophysics and particle physics.

News alert: New paper!
Electric fields help guide neural activity, even from moment to moment
“The brain is a rollicking sea of electrical influences”

The paper argues that two major puzzles (how the brain creates a unified experience and maintains an “edge-of-chaos” state) may be explained by continuous electromagnetic fields generated by neural activity.

They left home as boys 8 decades ago to go out and save the world. Last night they sat at the WWII Memorial together and celebrated their country's 250th. Still heroic.
The entire National Mall fireworks show in about a minute, seen from the webcam at the top of the Washington Monument starting with the B1 Lancer flyover.
