What have you been up to?
Its been a great privilege to be a part of the CAS Cyber Security class of 2020/2021 and having been able to attend classes at one of the most beautifully located campuses in Switzerland!
1/1 What i personally learned during 1 year of attending the CAS Cyber Security course, besides that the course has offred me an incredible insight and depth to Cyber Security, recon, offense and defense. That i miss reading books.
2/1 Personally I made a career in IT by reading books. Mark Minasi for Windows Server and Mastering VMware vSphere, helped me become a better System Engineer. I also read books on VMware Horizon, Acitve Directory and Powershell.
3/1 Books helped me understand concepts but also, make me remember what concepts the different products cover or rather what the specific products could and could not do. Furthermore how to properly design and engineer.
4/1 I've decided that i will do the same during my security career. I alreay started with Intelligence Driven Incident Response and will contine with the books that I already mentioned in previous posts.
5/1 Whether reading books will help you, is a very personal matter and you have to decide for yourself if reading will help you. For me it certainly was a great addition to online sources, blogs, twitter feeds, etc.
Next week no tweets. Taking a digital sabbatical.
Wish you all a good start on Monday!
It was a great ride and a pleasurable experience to have spent time with everyone involved in the course and being part of the Cyber Security class of '21! We'll stay in touch!
Did a quick debrief of my exam:
My lessons learned are 1/1:
- DVWA and Metasploitable to practice muscle memory
- Practice with vpn active | "Corporate" network topology
- Organise my sources better
- have a workaround if WLAN blocks all sorts of ports
- Rinse repeat more often
Lessons learned from yesterday's exam:
- there is never enough time
- organisation is key
- read, condense, repeat
My Personal shortcomings: Reading questions in the alotted time. Recall information after 1 hour of extreme concentration and pressure. No good night's sleep.
