1/ 🚀 Pathoplexus now supports Bundibugyo virus (BDBV), a species of Ebolavirus.
BDBV has been associated with past outbreaks of Ebola in the DR Congo and Uganda, & a case was reported today during response to the current Ebola outbreak.

Statement from the International Hantavirus Society and members of the international hantavirus research and clinical community regarding Andes virus transmission and the current outbreak investigation
https://t.co/Ot9bmwzLP6
Since launching support for the Andes virus species of hantavirus two days ago, we've received submissions from four countries' sequencing teams. This is a testament to the rapid response of researchers, sharing real-time data. Read more in our news post: https://t.co/Alx4xhQRNj
My ANDV #Hantavirus@nextstrain phylogenies now pull directly from @pathoplexus to incorporate all seqs
I'll continue to improve them & keep them updated

Really encouraging to see the complete sequence from this #Andes virus case in Switzerland shared so quickly.
Rapid open data sharing is critical during outbreak investigations — it allows the global scientific and public health community to assess relatedness to other cases, monitor for mutations, support diagnostic development, and better understand transmission dynamics in real time.
This kind of transparency and collaboration strengthens preparedness everywhere.

Visualize genomic data with ease using gggenomes, an R package that extends ggplot2 to handle and display genomic information intuitively. Whether you’re comparing genomes, analyzing features, or showcasing synteny, gggenomes provides the tools you need to turn complex genomic data into clear, informative visualizations.
Why use gggenomes?
✔️ Genomic-focused visualizations: Specifically designed for handling genomic data, including features, alignments, and comparative analysis.
✔️ Versatile and modular: Create detailed and layered plots for diverse genomic scenarios with flexibility for customization.
✔️ Built on ggplot2: Leverages ggplot2’s familiar framework, making it easy for users to adapt and enhance their visualizations.
The example visualization shown here is taken directly from the gggenomes GitHub repository, demonstrating how it transforms genomic data into compelling plots: https://t.co/FzE2wNzHeP

Our paper on the emergence and spread of HPAI H5N1 genotype D1.1 is finally out in Nature Medicine, and I'd love for you to give it a read! Big thanks to everyone involved. https://t.co/Yv4DsoNmt6
Visualizing pairwise genome comparisons? No need to run BLAST separately anymore! 🧬
#gbdraw has implemented #LOSAT, a WASM-powered Rust reimplementation of BLASTN/TBLASTX.

H5N1 virus isolated from bovine milk (H5N1Tex/24) replicates as efficiently as the H1N1 pdm09 in well-differentiated human nasal epithelial cells. H5N1Tex/24 replicates effectively at 33C vs earlier avian H5N1 which require 37C - adaptation to human URT.

Quantifying reassortment is hard. Lots of recorded genotypes of HPAI suggests its prolific. Here, widespread reassortment as measured by inferred subtree-prune-regraft (SPR) events, BUT measuring reassortment by SPRs may have a high false positive rate.
