He was a professor + the director of MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center

> Nuno was vital to the development of fusion nuclear power plants, without him the path ahead is less clear + his death will set back the entire field

Nuno is not the first MIT fusion scientist to be brutally murdered, in 2004 Eugene Mallove was also shot in his home

FINAL UPDATE* The video of the boy in the locker room has been removed and the man filming has been banned from LA Fitness as well as served by my lawyer representing the boy and his parents. Justice will be served. I also had the pleasure to FaceTime the boy yesterday. He is an incredible young and after seeing all of the support from everyone, he is so happy and doing much, much better. He’s plays the saxophone in his school band and loves the Green Bay Packers. We spent awhile talking about the gym, football, and his family. He truly is an impressive young man. I also asked him if he would be ok with me coming down to see him and taking him to the gym, with his father as well of course. He immediately said YES and was very excited about it so we’re going to plan a date over the next couple weeks for me to head down and see him. Again, NO ONE should ever go through the bullying and torment he had to endure, especially a child at the hands of an adult! As I promised his father when we first spoke, we are going to make it right for the boy and his family. Again, thank you to everyone for joining me in having this young man’s back and wanting to help. I hope I NEVER have to cover a video or situation like this ever again.

Tragedia din clubul din Macedonia de Nord seamănă izbitor cu cea de la Colectiv. Și cu orice altă catastrofă adusă de corupție. Nu e întâmplător.

Corupția ucide. Democrația e singurul sistem care o poate ține în frâu. Normele de siguranță ne-au salvat mai multe vieți decât ne putem imagina. De la cele rutiere sau aviație, până la potabilitatea apei sau protecția la inundații. Normele alea europene nu se bat cu pumnul în piept că funcționează. Cei care nu au murit, habar nu au ce înseamnă o autorizație de la ISU, siguranța alimentară ori controalele medicale la copii.

Problema cu regulile? Ele trebuie aplicate de oameni. Iar oamenii greșesc, mai ales când stau prea mult la putere.

De ce e vitală alternarea democratică a puterii?

Simplu: liderii care stau prea mult în funcții își creează inevitabil rețele de corupție. Nu cunosc niciun lider sau grup care să fi rezistat tentației de a-și construi un sistem, un stat subteran, o mafie politică. E valabil pentru România, dar și pentru Georgia, Serbia sau Ungaria.

Democrația funcționează în țările care o aplică pe termen lung. Aduce prosperitate prin reducerea fricii și a stresului că cineva îți poate face rău cu forța, ilegal, fără să știi de ce - doar pentru că poate.

Aici apare și paradoxul democrației: problemele nu sunt doar văzute, ci sunt și comentate, și se poate lupta împotriva lor. În dictaturi, problemele par inexistente pentru că nimeni nu îndrăznește să le semnaleze.

În democrații, oricine poate spune orice - ceea ce face ca realitatea să pară uneori mai periculoasă și mai murdară decât cea din dictaturi. E o iluzie optică, desigur, dar poate fi tentantă exact ca friptura din Matrix.

Avem o singură soluție: să nu fim leneși și să rămânem vigilenți în fața nedreptății. Pacea și prosperitatea în libertate sunt fragile, dar sunt cele mai importante daruri pe care le putem păstra și lăsa moștenire.
