@ClarkTheresa443@KIN110UofR I think global warming can impact sports at the recreational level. However at the elite level, events are highly planned and expensive so cancellations or postponements due to global warming is very unlikely even though it may be a health risk.
@Kalagervais @KIN110UofR I totally agree, I think if more money is spent supporting recreational athletes there would be more opportunities for everyone to participate and maybe more opportunities for people to become elite athletes. It would also contribute to better health in the general population.
@KIN110UofR should sport organizations be required to have stricter guidelines for postponing or rescheduling events in response to extreme weather, or is it better for them to proceed with the events as planned?
@KIN110UofR Women are often sexualized within the media. Take this recent photo for example: Ilona is an Olympic Rugby player, yet from the image, it is not immediately clear which sport she plays.
@KIN110UofR In 2005 McGill University canceled its football season after a complaint about the football team’s inappropriate initiation practices, including nudity and physical intimidation towards rookies. This incident highlights extreme levels of hazing. #stophazing
@RileyR76322@chloforddrake@KIN110UofR I agree, their whole life may have been dedicated to the sport so an injury will not stop them from pursuing their passion further.
@KIN110UofR In the 1996 Olympics, 14 year old gymnast Kerri Strug, suffered a severe ankle injury during competition. Despite the pain she wanted to help her team win. Her determination was evident, but was putting her body at risk to win the right choice? #sportethic
The gymnast Simone Biles opened up about her mental health struggles after she experienced the twisties at the Tokyo Olympics. She was an unexpected advocate for mental health, expressing that being at the top isn’t always as easy as it may seem. #mentalhealth@KIN110UofR
@KIN110UofR CrossFit champion, Annie Thorisdottir, faces criticism as a female in a male-dominated sport. Despite progress, barriers remain. Today, Annie advocates and empowers women to pursue their passions. Have you ever felt discouraged to pursue a passion due to your gender?
@KIN110UofR Volleyball Canada promotes inclusivity through many policys and partnerships. My club personally attends games where we wear orange shirts and share our connections to indigenous communities. What are your clubs doing?

@KIN110UofR Around the world, golf is very prestigious and can be an expensive sport both as an amateur and as a pro. Joining one of the top golf clubs can come with a ridiculous cost. In La Quinta, California, the Madison Golf Club has a whopping initiation fee of $500,000 USD. @KIN110UofR
@KIN110UofR There is a nostalgia in the old playgrounds that I think the newer ones can’t match. Growing up as a child from a small town, our equipment was a lot older and rarely updated. By today’s standards, it may be considered risky, but to me these parks were far more fun. @KIN110UofR
@KIN110UofR This article demonstrates the conflict between powerful institutions and the right of vulnerable female athletes. USA Gymnastics prioritized their reputation and financial interests over the wellbeing of the athletes.

@KIN110UofR@KIN110UofR New sports can be created by anyone as they emerge from pre-existing sports or from completely new ideas. Society as a whole decides whether or not an activity is a sport. It’s determined by how it’s portrayed in the media, how popular it is and the finances required.
@KIN110UofR@KIN110UofR While sport may not have a fixed definition, I would define sport as an activity that requires skill, physical and mental strength, rules, competition and strategy. Recreation I would define as a less competitive form of activity that many people do/play for fun.
