@KIN110UofR I found an article on a famous well known river in Paris being too polluted for athletes to swim in. This is one of many examples of how the environment has impacted sport. https://t.co/2iGGHyxhcQ
@KIN110UofR When thinking about safeguarding public order, one aspect that falls under it is access, but in a safe way like we discussed in class. What types of ways do they create safe access in your hometown? In mine, we have fenced in pools, security cameras at the golf course, and alarms at the rink.
@Myap12345@KIN110UofR I definitely think more people will watch because so many people’s opinions are heavily influenced by what they see or read online or on tv.
@KIN110UofR Have you ever had media coverage for a sport? If so, what for? I’m a competitive dancer and I rarely see any other female dancers being broadcasted for their sport. Majority of the time on TV you see football, hockey, etc. however you never really see female based sports.
@KIN110UofR Often when entering high school, there is an initiation (hazing) party. It has been tradition for years, however it has been more humiliation now instead of violence. Now, high schoolers will throw eggs, and other foods and grade 10 students, instead of using a paddle. Do you think this trend should be discontinued all together?
@KIN110UofR When thinking of deviant behaviours, it’s interesting to see the differences depending on the levels. For example, often times in recreational hockey leagues, it’s normal to use a substance (alcohol) while playing the game. However, if athletes were to participate in that behaviour in pro leagues, it would be considered deviant.

Harry Winston Jerome was a black athlete, born in Prince Albert Saskatchewan. He was a three time Olympian, and was a gold medal winner at the Commonwealth games and the pan American games. Jerome also advocated for better support, and greater recognition for Canadian athletes.
@KIN110UofR Sport can be a huge financial investment. I have competed in dance for the last 15 years of my life. This sport has registration fees, costume fees, competition registration fees, class fees, fundraising, gas money, hotel pay, dance shoes, specific hair product and pieces, and more. This all comes out to costing thousands of dollars.
@KIN110UofR Max Weber says, “power is determined by economic order.” In a perfect world, I would say that this belief should be shifted. It may be controversial, but I believe power stems from the state of your personal life, instead of it always being financial. For example, I believe that people in power are those who have family, loved ones, friendships, goals, passions, values, and happiness. This is a different aspect that would likely never be considered, but it is something to wonder about 💡
@RoriArmitage25@KIN110UofR I agree, however we have to keep in mind that that some coaches and teammates can take skill development to a harsh level. It can end in a lot of pressure, loss of love for the sport, and children being afraid of their coaches.
@KIN110UofR If I were to choose which playground my child in the future would use, I would have to say a nature playground. These playgrounds allow children to not only use their imagination, but also experience a development in a better environment while getting fresh air, and exploring their creative side.
@KIN110UofR When we think of sports, what is more important - having fun, or skill development? I would have to argue that skill development is more important in youth sports, however, we need to consider the downsides to that. Often times skill development comes with very competitive and harsh coaches, or even teammates. This can become very hard on the athletes physical and mental health. #youthsport
@KIN110UofR I found an article on the struggles females still face in sport as athletes today. Women still struggle with meeting with the pay that men earn, better training conditions, and equal broadcasting opportunities.

@KIN110UofR Personally, I don’t think sport can be defined by one person. I think our world and society around us decides together through the way the government, media, popularity of sport, and peers influence us. Do you agree? If not, explain your thoughts.
