En 1880 Argentina tenía 3,4 millones de habitantes. Entre 1880 y 1930 llegaron unos 5 o 6 millones de inmigrantes; alrededor de 3 millones se quedaron para siempre.

El Estado los recibió, les abrió las puertas, pero también les marcó un límite claro: integrarse a la Argentina, respetar sus leyes, SU BANDERA, sus símbolos, su idioma de manera oficial y sus costumbres de base.

No vinieron a imponer su cultura sobre la del país que los recibía, si a dar aportes. Esa diferencia explica por qué Argentina se fortaleció con la inmigración, mientras hoy gran parte de Europa enfrenta el riesgo de perder su propia identidad.
