On the morning of November 11, 2024, in Jiribam, Manipur, around 30 members of the Hmar Village Volunteers (HVV) from the KukiZocommunity approached a CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) camp with a peaceful intent.

They aimed to ease tensions by requesting the security personnel to lower their arms, signaling a gesture of peace and trust.

The volunteers themselves laid down their weapons, acting in good faith on an apparent agreement for peaceful coexistence.

However, this act of reconciliation was shattered when, as the HVV members were departing, CRPF forces unexpectedly opened fire on them from behind, without any prior provocation.

This sudden attack from the rear left the volunteers defenseless and resulted in chaos and tragedy. According to reports, at least 10 HVV members are now missing, presumed to have been killed or severely wounded in this ambush.

This incident stands in sharp contrast to the narratives being circulated by national media,Manipur State Media and the Manipur state government, which might depict the event as an assault on the police station.

Instead, this account reveals an unprovoked attack on civilians who had approached with intentions of peace.

Such an act by the CRPF, a force entrusted with maintaining law and order, signifies a profound betrayal of trust and calls for an urgent, thorough investigation to hold those responsible accountable.
