Tado’s app has always been free to use for controlling your thermostat.

Recently, some customers opened the app to find a new message: starting soon, they’d have to pay £1/€1 a month — just to keep doing what’s always been free.

No, this wasn’t for new features. Just basic control of what you already own.

The notice didn’t say it was a “test” or that nothing would change.

Only later did a Tado rep admit it was “marketing research,” and everyone in the test kept free access.

That’s the problem — users weren’t told they were part of an experiment. Also if Tado is testing it, they’re thinking about doing it for real.

Today it’s free. Tomorrow its not.

Why would you accept that? Why pay for someone to take control from you?
