This was probably the hardest Twitter recap to do yet there’s legit so much I didn’t have room to mention: New World updates, Kaido, awakened devil fruits, Robin/Sabo/Koala, the fights, etc

Doing my best to get all those thoughts into this 2-part video review I’m making!

Arc Review: Dressrosa 🌻

Rating: 8.5/10

One of the best stories in the show without question but definitely comes with some exceptions, however I think as a whole it was really good!

First off, the setting. The setting of the island to begin with was cool to me, like a Spain/Rome vibe. The colosseum, the flower hill, the underground operations, etc. Another really fleshed out island which I always love the amount of detail put into that

The story was peak, dare I say as good as Water 7’s arc story. Beginning the arc with Doflamingo’s warlord decision and finding the SMILE factory led to freeing an island full of toy people, taking down Doflamingo, securing Ace’s fruit, Sabo’s return, Gear 4, Law’s backstory, and more. It felt like every couple of episodes was a new twist happening for the first half. Of course in 118 eps there should be a ton of great story moments but the ones that happened were just so peak

Doflamingo is by far the best villain in the show to me. He is exactly what I want in a villain: Calculated, Powerful, Important to the story beyond just this encounter, and just straight up evil. Not only that, his design is great (not as good as Croc tho) AND the amount of different ways he used his devil fruit IS WHAT I LOVE TO SEE. THAT is the kind of variety in a devil fruit user that I think makes them have so much potential. He can slice, puppeteer, float, sew wounds, make the birdcage, etc. I hope this level of devil fruit usage is done again with other characters!! I loved how cocky he was too, just makes it so fun

As for Doffy’s story, peak. Pure evil from his actions to his roots. The sequence when he took over Dressrosa and made Riku kill to lose the throne, bro. That was so damn good!!! I also thought the way his backstory was formed was amazing, his motivations made sense as pure evil, and his importance to the rest of the New World made his defeat feel so much more important and exciting to see what will happen to both him and the world now. Also his theme music is so fire oh my god

I thought the other characters introduced were overall more good than not. Kyros was probably my favorite of the new bunch. Rebecca I think is a good character and I LOVE how her story wrapped up, but i just didn’t get that same connection feeling with her like I ended up having with other princesses like Shirahoshi or Vivi. The new fleet guys were fine, I do love Barto 😭 Bellamy coming back I appreciate how it tied into Luffy’s motivation, I do wish we got a bit more of him

Rosinante and Law were a HUGE highlight for me in this arc. Absolutely loved that.

There is so much to talk about I can’t fit it all so favorite moments: Sabo’s return, God Usopp/snipe, Doffy taking over, Gamma Knife, Gear 4, Law & Rosi story, Zoro slicing big Pica, King Kong Punch, Fujitora “kind” scene. There’s prob a few more

Now a few complaints. One, put some clothes on Rebecca Jesus Christ man what are we doing. Weird

Pacing. This is the first real arc where I FULLY felt the pacing impact my experience. The three big culprits for me were the colosseum fights, running up the hill to Doffy, and Rebecca flashbacks. Those 3 things had wayyyy too much screen time. I also just think in general there was a lot of fluff and this is the first arc I’ve ever had a sigh of relief it was done. And that’s not to say it was bad but I just had a feeling of “im ready to move on from this place”, which I’ve never felt yet, worth mentioning

I also didn’t like that Sanji & boat crew were just not present for 2/3 of the arc :(

Lastly some of Doffy’s crew I didn’t care for (Trebol, Senior Pink, Giolla, Buffalo) u know my Senor Pink take lol

I’m running out of characters and there’s still SOOOO much I didn’t talk about so I’ll just say: Overall the arc had so much to love and if you can separate the story from the pacing it comes with, you have a really fantastic arc!

I’ll get into way more more detail in my 2 videos for this arc :)
