In response to the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela, AWMH is granting $100,000 in support through longtime partner @directrelief.

While the full scale of the damage is yet to be determined, the United Nations is reporting that up to 6.8 million Venezuelans may be affected, including those displaced or losing access to electricity and water. More than 68,000 people were reported missing within three days of the disaster, and the official death toll is approaching 2,000.

Direct Relief is preparing medical aid commonly needed after earthquakes, including first-aid supplies, hygiene items for displaced families, medicines used to treat acute injuries, and chronic disease medications for people whose access to routine care may be interrupted.

AWMH’s $100,000 grant will support Direct Relief as the organization continues to respond to requests in the region as they become known.

“Si bien el epicentro donde se inicia todo está en Yumare, realmente el terremoto ocurrió en La Guaira”.

🇻🇪 La Federación Samaritana de Trabajadores de Austria informó que el equipo médico internacional que se preparaba para viajar a Venezuela para atender a las víctimas del terremoto finalmente no pudo ingresar al país.

Según el comunicado, la misión formaba parte de un Equipo Médico de Emergencia (EMT) liderado por ISAR Germany y contaba con 41 especialistas voluntarios en atención de desastres, incluidos 15 expertos de respuesta rápida de la organización austriaca.

De acuerdo con la organización, pese a que la asistencia médica internacional había sido solicitada y el despliegue ya estaba en marcha desde el aeropuerto militar de Wunstorf, en Alemania, las autoridades venezolanas no autorizaron el ingreso sin visado del personal.

Ante esta situación, el contingente austriaco regresó a Viena y la ayuda continuará enfocándose en el envío de insumos humanitarios y apoyo a través de organizaciones aliadas. #VPItv

I’m receiving countless reports and footage from La Guaira showing national guards going through the rubble of buildings looking for valuables and cash to steal while survivors search for their dead relatives. The dictatorships forces took over a day to reach the area and now they’re not even helping with rescue efforts.

hello Venezuelan friends, we're very heartbroken about the earthquake.
3 years ago we had a similar earthquake in Turkey where we lost 50.000 souls. to help people out we built a "needs map" where we scraped posts online and put address and name and what the person needs (food, water, saving) so others could help and we managed to get to people. we'd love to help you out, but actually work with local Venezuelan folk in ML, and at HF we are happy to cover inference. please respond to this post if you are interested 🙏🏼 the project is outdated so it would take a bit and you would need people to label a dataset shortly but other than that it should work
