Rescuers and local volunteers in Ukraine's Kherson risked their lives under active Russian drone fire to dig a man out of the debris following a devastating Russian bomb strike.

Overnight, Russia attacked Kyiv and the surrounding region with more than two dozen ballistic missiles, killing at least 17 people and injuring more than four dozens.

Russian strikes take no summer vacation; support for Ukraine and pressure on the aggressor must not pause either.

Every interceptor counts. They are life-saving tools, and I urge all partners to expedite all relevant decisions.

Russia’s ability to produce these tools of ballistic terror must be disrupted. Additional, tough sanctions are critical and urgent.

I also warn against drawing any false moral equivalence between the aggressor and the state defending itself.

Russian attacks cannot be justified under any circumstances, including any Ukrainian actions. On the contrary, Ukraine has every right to strike legitimate military targets inside Russia in self-defense under Article 51 of the U.N. Charter.

Today, many were shocked by yet another video of the drone “safari” Russians are carrying out against civilians in Kherson. A Russian drone deliberately hunted down a man selling vegetables and detonated right next to him. The Russians even admitted to the crime, showing zero regret and openly boasting about tormenting people. The man was wounded in the blast. Every single day, ordinary people in Kherson face these Russian "safaris."

The world must see this. It must see every piece of evidence that Russia has gone mad and that its soldiers take pleasure in killing and abusing civilians. Without pressure on Russia, the dismantling of its capacity for aggression, and real security guarantees, it is simply impossible to imagine the world being able to coexist with this evil. We must remain resolute in defending life. We must act and support life in ways that force Russia to seriously think about peace rather than expanding the range of its drones.

This is not just about Ukraine. Russia’s campaign against human life must be stopped here in Ukraine before it spreads further. Finland and Kazakhstan, the Baltic states and Poland, the countries of the South Caucasus, Romania, and Moldova—all should work together to ensure real security guarantees and bring Russia’s war to an end. Peace is needed, which requires cooperation among everyone in the world who truly values peace. Thank you to everyone standing with Ukraine!

Russia's latest attacks once again targeted places where people should feel safest: their homes.

▪️ In Sumy, Russian guided aerial bombs killed a woman and two girls aged 5 and 10. Four others were injured. As rescuers worked at the scene, Russia launched repeated strikes, damaging emergency equipment.

▪️ In Mykolaiv, an 89-year-old woman was killed after Russia struck a residential neighbourhood. Seven more people were injured, including girls aged 2 and 12.

▪️ In Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, Odesa region, Russian drones destroyed a private home and injured two people.

▪️ In Balakliia, Kharkiv region, a Russian missile struck near a residential building, injuring two people.

▪️ In Dnipro, another overnight attack set food warehouses on fire.

People and their homes continue to come under Russian attacks. Ukraine needs stronger air defence and sustained international support to protect civilian lives.

Russia keeps choosing terror again and again. Over the past seven days only, Russia launched thousands of drones, bombs, and missiles, including ballistic, against Ukraine.

The attacks reached 16 Ukrainian regions, damaging over 1,500 civilian sites, among them hundreds of homes.

Even today, Russian guided aerial bombs struck Sumy, while a drone attack on Brovary killed one person and injured six others.

Russia continues to expand its capacity to produce missiles, bombs, and drones. Too many manufacturers supplying its military industry remain outside international sanctions.

Every loophole left open helps sustain Russia's attacks. Stronger sanctions on Russia, together with greater support for Ukraine's air defence, are essential to save lives.

A hell of a night in Kyiv.

At least 9 people were killed and 23 injured as a result of Russia’s barbaric attack with three dozen ballistic missiles. The second such massive strike in just two days.

Failing to achieve its goals on the battlefield, Russia is intensifying its air attacks and terror against civilians. Ukraine urgently needs additional air and missile defense systems and interceptors.

The speed of decisions and deliveries is critical. Every decision that strengthens the defense of Ukrainian skies saves human lives, while every delay leads to deaths and war crimes.

It is the battle for the skies that will define the trajectory of this war. The stronger the air shield over Ukraine, the closer peace becomes.

Overnight, Russia launched another massive missile and drone attack across Ukraine. At least eight people were killed and more than 50 injured as residential buildings were struck in several regions.

In the Kryvyi Rih district, a missile hit the home of a large family, killing six people, including three children aged 6, 11 and 17. Rescue operations are still under way in Lviv and the Dnipro region, where people may still be trapped beneath the rubble.

Today at 5 pm Kyiv time, the UN Security Council will convene at Ukraine's request.

We expect a clear and principled response to Russia's latest attacks against Ukraine's civilian infrastructure and commercial vessels in the Black Sea.

Russia continues to target peaceful Ukrainian cities while also threatening freedom of navigation and global food security through its attacks on commercial shipping in the Black Sea.

We thank our partners for their steadfast support and their principled position. A strong and united message from the Security Council is essential to increase pressure on the aggressor and ensure accountability.

Ukraine remains committed to the UN Charter and international law and continues to work toward a comprehensive and lasting peace. Russia must cease its attacks and end its war of aggression.

A Russian drone struck a supermarket in Chernihiv, killing at least two people, including a child, and injuring twenty others. Fires broke out after the attack as rescue workers searched for survivors and extinguished the flames.

On the same day, Russia also dropped guided aerial bombs on Zaporizhzhia, killing one person and injuring another.

This is the reality of Russia's war against Ukraine. Russia chooses to target places that should be among the safest. Each attack is intended to spread fear far beyond the site of the strike.

Russia's terror will not stop on its own. It must be constrained by stronger sanctions, greater military support for Ukraine, and more air defence systems capable of stopping missiles, drones, and aerial bombs before they reach their targets.

Russian terror against the Black Sea maritime corridor is not a “response” or “retaliation” for anything. Don't fall for the false narrative that Russian strikes are driven by Ukrainian actions elsewhere. That is a deliberate lie.

Russia’s terror campaign against civilian shipping didn't start in July 2026. Since 2022, Moscow has systematically targeted Ukrainian ports, infrastructure, agricultural exports, civilian vessels, crews, and grain storage facilities.

Since 2022, Russian strikes have damaged or destroyed 1,054 port infrastructure facilities, hit 232 civilian vessels, and killed or injured 307 civilians. Without any “pretexts”, “causes”, or “justifications” for its terror.

The Ukrainian maritime corridor is a vital lifeline for global food security. Since its launch in September 2023, it has moved 208.9 million tons of cargo—including 123.8 million tons of grain—feeding families across more than 55 countries. And that is exactly what Russia is targeting.

By weaponizing hunger, Russia is attacking not just Ukraine, but millions of people worldwide. Such actions cannot be justified.

We call for a strong, unified international response. Demand that Moscow immediately cease its attacks on freedom of navigation and stop trying to turn the Black Sea into another Strait of Hormuz.

En #Jersón, ataques rusos con bombas guiadas y drones mataron a una persona e hirieron a otras dos. En #Járkiv, un ataque con drones rusos dejó cinco heridos, entre ellos un niño de 12 años.

En la región de #Sumy, los ataques rusos hirieron a seis personas, incluidos cuatro niños, después de que un dron impactara un edificio residencial. I was pleased to welcome Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher to Kyiv and thanked him for visiting Ukraine at a time when Russia continues to intensify its terror against our civilians.

During his visit, Kyiv came under yet another massive Russian missile and drone attack. No briefing can convey the reality of this war better than witnessing it firsthand.

I expressed gratitude for the Holy See's unwavering solidarity with the Ukrainian people, its humanitarian efforts, and its consistent moral leadership in support of peace, human dignity, and international law.

I stressed that one of our highest humanitarian priorities remains securing the return of all Ukrainian prisoners of war, unlawfully detained civilians, and every deported Ukrainian child.

Russia is waging war not only against Ukraine, but also against faith itself. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, nearly 740 religious sites of different faiths and denominations—including Orthodox churches, Catholic churches, Protestant places of worship, mosques, synagogues, and other religious buildings—have been damaged or destroyed by Russian attacks.

I also emphasized the urgent need to protect Ukraine's religious and cultural heritage, particularly after Russia's recent strike on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, and called for continued international support in these efforts.

I briefed Archbishop Gallagher on the battlefield situation, Ukraine's peace efforts, and Europe's growing role in advancing a comprehensive and lasting peace.

The Kremlin continues to escalate terror against civilians and expanding its campaign to recruit mercenaries around the world, including in Africa. We discussed ways to help prevent such exploitation of vulnerable communities through dialogue with partners and religious leaders.

We also discussed further humanitarian cooperation and support.

The profiles cover agents and intermediaries whose names appear in open sources, including court records, government statements, journalistic investigations, law enforcement filings, and survivor testimony.

People are lured to Russia under the pretence of civilian work, then find themselves in a military context with no way out. Recruits are misled about the real conditions of service – the danger, the duration, and the pay. Fraudulent schemes are used during recruitment to secure their commitment before they understand what they are agreeing to ❌

International human rights organisations, media outlets, and governments are paying increasing attention to Russian recruitment schemes, which are used to replenish the losses of Russia's armed forces in its war against Ukraine.

Rusia mató a una persona e hirió al menos a otras 16 en uno de sus mayores ataques con misiles balísticos contra #Kyiv desde el comienzo de la guerra a gran escala.

Durante la noche Ucrania ha sido atacada por ​más de 40 misiles de diferentes tipos y 120 drones de ataque, la mayoría de los misiles apuntaron a la capital ucraniana. Cerca de 600 trabajadores de emergencia todavía están lidiando con las consecuencias del ataque.
