Behind the beauty of the sacred Esala Perahera are thousands of drummers, dancers, torchbearers and handlers who work hard for 10 days.

Good to see Link Samahan working with the Sri Dalada Maligawa to look after the health and well-being of these traditional performers through the “Samahan Arakshawe Pelahera” initiative.

Apparently it was practiced by all Muslims of the island, including by us Southerners. Though dead in the South & Kandy, it continues in the northwest & east.
