As Chelsea fans, I think we sometimes forget most have never seen a coach in the dugout last beyond 18 months (2/3 seasons max).

So you may not realise it, but a lot of the microanalysis & want for a coach-change is due to toxic habit & restlessness, because that’s all we know when we face adversity.

This is new territory for us & “change” is difficult.

All this extra microanalysis of Maresca is definitely a consequence result of this.

There is no coach who has been a so called “success” in recent years with a long-term project, that has been perfect or not had faults.

— Klopp’s defence was under constant criticism & he had question marks till they signed VVD/Allison

— Pep inherited the strongest side in the league (Aguero, Silva, Kompany, Fernandinho, Toure, Bundesliga POTY KDB etc) & started the season 5/5, but went on to collapse and finished 3rd/4th in his first season

— Arteta struggled for his first few years & still even at title-contender level for 3 years won nothing

Little faults do not mean Maresca is not the man for the job. Judge things in totality for a clear, unemotional view.

He’s had us at top 4 level since he stepped in the door & shown a capacity to win trophies, with a squad we all agree is indeed top 4 level.

Nevermind the fact this is him as a rookie, with clear upside as he ages.

Pep/Klopp are literal experienced winners & had slight faults, nevermind the likes of Arteta/Maresca who were rookies.

This is what having a long-term coach feels like. Accepting they are human & will have flaws we just have to accept, as long as they are good enough to win/compete at the highest level.

Logic says, if we give him a title-level squad we will win/compete for everything.

So stop trying to be overly-smart nitpicking Maresca’s flaws and let’s do just that.
