This is hardly the moment to announce new projects with the Georgian 🇬🇪 government. Strategic communication is everything now. The EU should halt 🇪🇺 funds for the executive, channel support to CSOs which are at risk of being silenced & threaten sanctions against autocratic forces
If EU had learned anything from attacks on judiciary in Poland and Hungary, they would react quickly and decisively to these developments in Slovakia…
Alas, I fear they have learned nothing.

In #Hungary, #Fidesz frames international grants to independent #NGOs as massive threat to sovereignty.
Abroad, it organizes mass protests & road blockades, and of course meddles into elections. I wonder when will partners see that Fidesz is a threat to other's #sovereignty.
‼️ My speech in Plenary today:
Article 7(2) was not put in the Treaty for nothing. It’s there for a reason. So, please Member States, roll up your sleeves and start the work to save this Union.
The EU decision-making cannot be paralyzed by one government.

He’s right. The commission confused a law with reality. The Hungarian judicial
reform changed nothing substantial on the ground. And the commission fell for it.
Today the EU Commission killed its most powerful tool for defending rule of law: budget conditionality. Just as its suspension of funds was starting to impose pain on Orban, @vonderleyen caves in to his extortion over Ukraine & releases the money. Shame! https://t.co/6Go8W1kPxz
A successful & democratic #Ukraine is an existential threat to the autocratic regime of Viktor #Orbán, hence his strategic interest is 🇺🇦's defeat.
My piece for @VisegradInsight before this week's crucial #EUCO.

We need to rebuild something that has been ruined, the rule of law with all its institutional aspects. We have spent many hours discussing how to quickly and unconditionally restore the rule of law in Poland - Tusk after introducing new MoJ @Adbodnar
