Today on this #WetlandsWednesday I am so sad as I learnt today that my former professor and mentor Dr Harry Nixon Chabwela at the University of Zambia ๐ฟ๐ฒ passed away yesterday. When I was in Zambia last week I tried desperately to see him alas I was informed he was very sick.
When I started my undergraduate degree at University of Zambia ๐ฟ๐ฒ his classes on ecology were my favourite and he is also the reason I became a wetland ecologist. When I was appointed as the Secretary General of The Convention on Wetlands @RamsarConv he was the first to know and as fate had it - I was in Lusaka when the news broke. I went to see him at #UNZA and as one never to mince his words he just looked at me without butting an eye and very categorical and firmly: Musonda this NOT a job, itโs a calling and please take this role very seriously for the love of wetlands and #MotherEarth.
He was one human I never had small talk with and I think he taught me never to entertain it ๐คท๐พโโ๏ธ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐๐พ
He was deep, purposeful, wise and always telling me to remain curious.
I share a picture of him and I from 1998 when he came to Gland, Switzerland ๐จ๐ญ when I was an intern at the Convention and he was participating in the Standing Committee. And he always wished me well: Musonda May your journey be meaningful, fulfilling and purposeful.
As you enter another realm - May the ancestors receive you well Doc. You forever remain my inspiration. Truly honoured and grateful to have known you and for being my guiding light through my #WetlandsJourney.
Thank YOU for keeping me on the straight and narrow - ALWAYS! Even on days things felt hard and tough - you encouraged and cheered me. And even when I least believed in myself - you just said: young lady, I know you have got this. GO GO! Never give up!

@muloongo The desire to leave the country has gone from "never ever" to "working on it". I'm exhausted with this way of life. Vicious cycles intersecting generation after generation.

Words canโt describe how immensely honored I feel to play the mermaid of my dreams, Ariel in Disneyโs The Little Mermaid. Come under the sea with me, in theaters May 26, 2023 ๐ง๐ฝโโ๏ธ
@shawnstockman And THAT you do.
"... You were my earth, my number one priority
I gave my love to only you
Anything you'd ask of me, I would do..."
She bought the cassette, played it, but she was oblivious to how relevant this line was to our situation.
Happy happy 80th birthday to Dr #HarryChabwela - the man who inspired me to study #WetlandEcology at university of Zambia ๐ฟ๐ฒ. Blessings galore ๐๐พ๐ฅณ๐๐ฝ๐๐พ
When you see the result it's tempting to think it was easy. But as business environment reforms person, I've seen their struggles and resilience, and I have an idea of the steepness of the mountain they climb. #Entrepreneurs#HappyBirthday@javafoods
