Families looked forward to them because they offered more than calories - they offered nourishment, strength, and a brief sense of normalcy after years in deprivation, and in famine. Because funding has fallen so sharply, The Sameer Project kitchen is only able to cook half as many days each week, and on those days we serve only half the number of meals we once did. Every reduction means more parents wondering how they will feed their children, and more families going to sleep hungry.

On July 4, The Sameer Project provided 386 servings of rice meals to displaced families in Al-Sarraj Camp. The entire distribution cost $1,159 after 11% commission fees.

The need has never been greater. Gaza is facing catastrophic food insecurity, yet we are being forced to scale back when we should be expanding.
