They came back from Vietnam and made movies about it.
Apocalypse Now. Full Metal Jacket. Platoon. The Deer Hunter. Born on the Fourth of July.
Beautiful films. Serious films.
Films about the trauma of American soldiers, the moral complexity of American soldiers, the broken psyches of American soldiers.
How many major American films center the experience of the Vietnamese?
How many Hollywood productions have you seen where the Vietnamese are the protagonists, the full human beings with names and families and inner lives, and the Americans are the faceless army descending from the sky?
Think about that structure.
Think about what it means when a country kills three million of your people, loses the war, goes home, and then spends the next fifty years producing prestige cinema about how hard the killing was for the killers.
Vietnamese suffering as backdrop. American suffering as subject.
Vietnamese bodies as set dressing. American guilt as narrative arc.
They could not conquer Vietnam militarily.
But they tried to conquer the story.
They tried to make the war, in global cultural memory, fundamentally about them.
Their boys. Their trauma. Their national reckoning.
We are not your reckoning.
We are not your backdrop.
We won.
We exist.
We have our own story, and in our story, we are the ones who were here before you came and here after you left.
Just as the production of the goods are secondary to profit,
Capitalists do not care about worker productivity. Above all, capitalists seek worker misery,
Because for capitalists to survive, they need power over workers more than what those workers could ever produce.
This #art captures how I feel...
Missile hit meters away from me days ago, but yeah, that's life here. Can't really dwell on it, got studies & dental training to worry about. One wish? Just survive this and finish my school soon. Can u help?

🔴Husam Abu Safia is one of 95 doctors sentenced to death by Israel.
His only “crime” was treating and caring for the wounded people of Gaza—people Israel wants dead.
If you don’t want to watch him face execution, share this.
We make movies about saving the world as the real world hurtles toward ecological collapse.
We make movies about defeating diabolical villains while letting the real diabolical villains rule the world.
We make movies celebrating heroic acts while real heroes are imprisoned.
Somehow fighting the bad guys and saving the planet only ever stays in movie land. We are handed fictional triumphs in lieu of real victory.
And the problem is that far too many of us are content with this. Give us bread made by PepsiCo and circuses starring Robert Downey Jr, and that's good enough for us.
We can't keep doing this. We need to find our true heroism. Our world is in peril, and we can't let its rescue remain a decorative flicker on the silver screen.
all of my adult experience has been extreme economic decline followed by little to no recovery. Bullshit numbers to make things seem okay while i watch my friends and family suffer immensely
@SSsmelvic@eliz883 The blue wave also needs to very, deeply progressive. It needs to have the political will to hold the people and corporations responsible for this mess accountable.
@adam828229@eliz883 He's had a big TAO spot position for a while. It's a long term, high conviction play. The potential gain for him is worth the risk of TAO completely failing.
@eliz883 Yup; middle of nowhere. I jumped in hoping to long 61k to 64k.
I tightened my stop loss and saved myself from over-committing to a bad trade.
Back to waiting.
@NickDegeor52566@jeremyct Employers fundamentally see employees as liabilities. Having to pay workers eats into their profits.
By their accounting, the greatest "value" an employee can provide an employer is not being there.
@JOConnor_AK@AzPetrich I'd rather colleges and students get that funding than to shower even more gifts on billionaires to prop up their fragile egos and further encourage them to waste all of everybody's lives... and labor... and sanity...
And the environment...
