recap:

1>Google had internal AI for yrs but refused to release it because they’re our overlords who treated us like the idiots that we are. they were happy to throw scraps at us once in a while and then cancel those projects on a whim. they didn’t give two shits until OpenAI literally showed up and forced their hand.

2> meanwhile we couldn’t even get basic spellcheck right. spellcheck doesn't work in Chrome EVEN NOW. Grammarly built an entire business extorting fees just to make that one basic feature usable.

3> look at how Ilya is selling closed source AI to hedge funds. that was the best-case scenario for AI. it was destined for quants and algo trading because that’s where the serious money is (eg even Deepseek came out of a hedge fund)

4> then Sam casually dropped Chatgpt in 2022 and everything changed overnight. suddenly there was AI you could simply log into, ask questions and chat with. it was fucking magical.

5> OpenAI was so far ahead that nobody really came close until Anthropic in 2025/26 and even Dario came from openai (so more points for Sam tbh)

granted there’s a whole lot of profit/non-profit drama going on but the fact remains: we have consumer AI because Sam Altman decided to release it and then built an entire business around it.

NVIDIA is worth multiple trillions because of that. otherwise that leather jacket hero larp uncle would still be selling gpus to crypto miners and gamers like he always did.

Elon gave us a true EV company. Sam gave us AI. both are feuding and that’s their business but don’t lose perspective of the facts.

As an Apple Watch Ultra (1st gen) user, I’m disappointed with Apple.

Imagine spending $800 on a smartwatch only for it to lose software support after just 3 years. Sure, the watch will still work fine, but you’ll miss out on new features and improvements that come with future watchOS updates.

This has honestly made me reconsider buying another Apple Watch in the future. If I ever get one again, it’ll probably be an SE model, or I may just switch to another smartwatch brand entirely, because this just doesn’t feel acceptable to me.

Forget about Indians going abroad and creating a nuisance. I mostly travel solo and usually stay in backpacker hostels like Zostel or GoStops. Lately, though, I have noticed something that is slowly ruining the whole hostel experience.

Groups of friends now book dorms instead of private rooms. And honestly, if you are travelling as a group and your plan is to spend the night drinking, chatting loudly, playing music, and hanging out with each other, why not just book a private room, a hotel, or an Airbnb? Instead, they check into dorms and treat the entire space as their personal hangout spot. Endless conversations late into the night, loud laughter, music, drinking in common areas, and complete disregard for the fact that there are other people around trying to sleep, work, read, or simply enjoy some quiet time.

When backpacking culture was still relatively new, there was an unwritten code. People socialised, made friends, and shared stories, but they were also mindful of the fact that they were sharing a space with strangers. The whole idea of a backpacker hostel was to create a comfortable environment where travellers, especially solo travellers, could meet people while still respecting each other’s peace. That culture seems to be fading away.

And honestly, I think this goes beyond hostels. It is part of a larger decline in civic sense and consideration for others. Somewhere along the way, we have become less aware of how our behaviour affects the people around us. Maybe this sounds like a small thing, but anyone who has spent enough time in hostels will understand. A dorm is a shared space. It works only when people remember that they are not the only ones in it.

And also I strongly believe there is a difference between a traveller and a tourist. A traveller adapts to the place and respects the people around them. A tourist expects the place to adapt to them. Sadly, more and more backpacker hostels today seem to be attracting the latter.
