A problem with the latest news that panic buying has resulted in an extra £1bn in our cupboards. That’s £15 per person, or 3 or 4 modest priced items each, an understandable and modest reaction at an individual level. Real issue is just in time supply chains are very vulnerable.
As the horror that is a Tory majority government unfolds, I hope voters now realise the huge mistake they made not electing Jeremy. Sadly, Keir Starmer won’t be the opposition leader that Jeremy was.
As a lifelong socialist in my 80’s, like Jeremy I voted Leave to counter the foolish love of the capitalist cartel that is the EU amongst the young. So it is an outrage they now put ME at risk by cavorting in public, just because the virus is unlikely to hurt them. So unfair.
In case anyone does want to read why the Government had got it wrong and have changed tack, this is the Imperial College paper. Its 20 pages long and goes on a bit, but basically says we were heading for 250k deaths as we'd have too many people needing ICU beds. (1)
@BethRigby@Peston@bbclaurak will you be asking at what level the government will trigger Social distancing and school/university closure - 60 ICU cases a week? 400? What is the number currently? Page 13 of the Imperial College paper says this is a key factor for total deaths.
@nurse_marcus Also Russia took action to close the border with China and imposed isolation on people returning from many countries. https://t.co/q6B2f8urmY
@MissLauraMarcus (2:2) after 1985 my company introduced an intranet (before the internet). Working late I had a message from NZ about a customer with a subsidiary there. I replied - 2 minutes later a reply came - ‘thanks’. So impressed when I got home I told my wife all about this amazing event.
@MissLauraMarcus I used to have to send a (hand written!) memo to about 100 salesmen at a time. I was still doing this as late as 1985. It was supposed to be done by carbon copies but I cheated and got access to a photocopier. (1/2)........
110% agree. There are NO circumstances in which any trade union could strike, no matter for how ill judged the reasons, no matter how severe the public harm, that I would ever want a single word of criticism to be uttered. They should have a completely blank cheque.
Deeply discouraged that, while the wrong gritty northern lass Nandy was co-chair of the Owen Smith campaign to undermine Jeremy, she met with Blair - proving she should already have been deselected. What could any true Labour member hope to learn from 3 times GE winner Blair?
