@HowEPhil Could HOPE be a lurking variable?
I imagine there’s typically a significant migration out of Georgia by 21-23 year olds once they get their degree(s) from in-state institutions that provide free tuition.
Most states don’t have universal scholarships that cover 100% of tuition.
@ruwaromman They are doing that for sure.
But can you not see how needlessly controversial and toxic Piker is?
Glorifying Mao Zedong whenever he gets the chance is not a winning strategy or someone that Dems should ally themselves with. And every other week he says something fairly nutty.
@Gomo8@ribunchreports Or they’re actually disgusted by Rick Jackson’s campaign using this girl as a prop for their campaign ads and don’t want to see him as governor.
@notanavgburner@VoteHub May I ask if you’ve considered that the legislature will remain Republican and would moderate Bottoms’ ability to screw much up, while Bottoms’ veto would keep kooky legislation at bay?
But Rick Jackson is likely to be on board with any extremist bill that lands on his desk.
@bluestein Boy, you really love framing the election in a way that will let you write another book, don’t you?
You and the AJC’s coverage of the debate was terrible and overlooked multiple gaffes from Rick Jackson.
Anyone who watched it can see why he only agreed to one debate.
@jettryan1@QondiNtini I have my whole life, and Rick Jackson came off doddery and unprepared for live questions.
He also made multiple promises to undecided voters during the debate that run contrary to policies the GOP legislature would ever pass.
Jackson is 100% trying to buy the governorship.
@BeshearStan Unfortunately local news (the AJC) is covering it the most frustrating way possible and completely ignoring his terrible performance and gaffes. Absolutely no mention of either in their articles (particularly those written by Greg Bluestein).
@leosun4u@FipFip12@bluestein Please consider that the legislature will remain Republican (the State Senate especially has 0 chance of flipping this year).
Having Bottoms as governor would provide Georgia with sensible balance and ensure both parties actually have to work together to pass the budget.
@keaaaaley The height of Gagamania when even my boomer parents started talking about her. She was inescapable.
And that’s probably why most of the general public was fatigued with her by the time Applause released.
@dawbuildsthings@7ongcatUnbanned Yeah, that’s an overly restrictive policy for 2026 when your city is experiencing a housing crisis in large part due to lack of building new dense housing.
Almost all tall buildings being commercial real estate simply reflects London’s need for more high rise housing.
@dawbuildsthings@7ongcatUnbanned That’s a cute reason if it hasn’t contributed to less dense housing that London needs to combat its housing shortage.
There is already too much practical opposition to building more dense housing in London, let alone sentimental opposition.
@charizardavis@filetofunk You mean the ones like Ossoff and Roy Cooper who are about to win their senate elections by several points ahead of y’all’s leftist fantasy candidates?
Please mentally leave LA sometime and consider how your highly progressive bubble is not what we have in swing states.
@GovRankinMT@LinkofSunshine Did you know Jeannette Rankin owned a farm outside Athens, GA in Watkinsville in the 1930s?
There’s a state historical plaque on the property I remember seeing when growing up in Athens.
