Lots of great stuff this #HeartUnions week showcasing the essential work of trade unions.
In Dec 2020, @thefabians/@CommunityUnion's Commission on Workers and Tech made recommendations on how unions can be enabled to play a bigger role in making tech change work for workers 👇
Very grim. The @ChangingWorkC and @YvetteCooperMP's Commission on Workers and Technology found emerging evidence of this kind of thing last year.
We proposed that government needs to fully review automated decision-making in recruitment - especially to rule out discrimination.
.@YvetteCooperMP, Chair of our Commission on Workers and Technology, is addressing @thefabians’ #Lab21 fringe on the future of the gig economy.

Fantastic to see @UKLabour, @Keir_Starmer and @AngelaRayner adopting a Commission on Workers and Technology recommendation - to establish a framework for unions and employers to negotiate pay and standards at sector level, starting with the social care sector.
Automation is accelerating. There will be 500 robots delivering Co-op groceries across England by the end of 2021.

.@The_TUC have called on the government to implement a permanent furlough-like scheme, with funded training offered to workers to manage changes in the world of work 👇

NEW: our chair @YvetteCooperMP writes for the @NewStatesman.
"Past eras of major technological change have created new opportunities, but also new injustices ... We owe it to all those who have felt the full force of this crisis to act now."

Today the government announced that a Skills and Post-16 Education Bill will soon be introduced.
These plans must support workers to adapt to automation and new tech. @thefabians/@CommunityUnion's Commission on Workers and Technology set out how adult skills reform can do this.
The government's measures must:
1. Ensure the adult skills system is integrated and accessible to all workers.
2. Enable people to 'work and train' by supporting workers' incomes.
3. Support local areas and sectors to fund strategically important qualifications above level 3.
Congratulations to @AngelaRayner who on becoming the Shadow Secretary of State for the Future of Work takes on the crucial task of decent jobs for all post-pandemic.
