#healthinequalities lead @nhsbt & PhD student @RoyalVetCollege improving wellbeing of people & equids. Happy hacker & hockey gk @broxbourne_hc. Views are my own
I have always been pleased that no matter how difficult I found my PhD I was always glad I was doing it... Cue the final 6 months, juggling writing up & new job where part of me now just wants to quit because I'm not convinced I can do this without destroying myself #phdlife
@DrKLSpence @tamzinfurtado Thank you both. I definitely need the encouragement this week! Feeling like nothing I do is good enough... Let's hope for a better day tomorrow!
Productive day working, sitting in the shade of the garden. Probaby need to try it more often. Now just wish I could match up expectations of output with reality!
Been made to feel very welcome in my new role at Health Inequalities Lead for @nhsbt. Can't wait to implement some of my ideas. Feeling like I can really make a difference #healthinequalities#wellbeing
@Panzyy Never ever say you are 'just' anything, you are important and valuable. I have been guilty of this too; saying that I'm 'just' a scientist when surrounded by first doctors and now vets. I try not to now... I chose a different path, that doesn't mean you or I are inferior.
Can my #academia colleagues help point me in the direction of resources aimed at #maturestudents after they start studying? Trying to pull together stuff for my uni's Mature Students Association, but can only find stuff about applying to uni #phdchat#AcademicChatter
@DrCEWylie I feel your pain. We haven't seen my partner's parents since last Christmas, due to covid restrictions and not wanting to risk it. On a positive note they had their first covid jabs last weekend... Hope we both get to see our loved ones soon
When you get a call at 21:39 on a Sunday telling you that your supermarket delivery arriving between 22:00-23:00 is no longer coming and you only have enough milk for one cup of tea @SoVeryBritish#firstworldproblems
A lot has been said to sympathise with parents #homeschooling their children... A shout out to other partners of teachers who now get to listen to daily A level #Maths lessons #phdlife#distraction
@natdyerwild@jilly_mackay@OpenAcademics I started my PhD at 34 and still going. I'm pleased I finally took the plunge to do it. It's been tough but I have never regretted my decision. I had savings behind me, but will always be grateful to my partner for enabling me not to worry about keeping a roof over our head
It's that time between Christmas and New Year when you dust off that paper you've been meaning to finish drafting and then spend two days trying to work out what you were talking about #phdlife#publications#academia
