“Academic accommodations for anxiety convey two harmful messages. First, they imply that the feared situation is truly dangerous. Public speaking, testing, or lunch with classmates are too risky for a student. Second, they suggest that the student can’t withstand the distress. Those messages increase anxiety.”
What a fantastic article!! Eliminating things that cause anxiety don’t teach students how to cope with difficult situations and can heighten anxiety in the long term!! Avoidance is a TEMPORARY solution but can be harmful in the long run!

@HydroOne we need you to get here to clear lines off our driveway. No way for emergency vehicles to get in if there was a problem, which could be a major lawsuit for you, and it’s been like this for 8 days. We’ve called several times without response. Do better.

Today I joined in a game of soccer with the Grade 2 boys. It was worth it to hear them say, “No teacher has ever played soccer with us before!” There were lots of laughs and a lot of fun! #CommunityBuilding#belonging@PVNCCDSB@JeannieArmstr20
We had a great first day welcoming all our students and families back to school. We hope all our Cyclones had a great day too!! #belonging@PVNCCDSB@JeannieArmstr20
It's basic decency. Learn how to pronounce a person's name.
Their name doesn't belong to you. You don't get to shorten it, rename them, or say it in a way that's easier for you.
Learning to pronounce a name correctly is the least we can do.
