To play the game of life with a finite mindset means that you wake up and think that you want to be the best. To play the game of life with an infinite mindset means you think, "I'm going to leave this school, this world better than I found it." @simonsinek#MSC2019
A5: Absolutely! As educators, we have one of the most important jobs because we are tasked with molding the way students think. What we do in our classrooms can shape the way kids view the world for their entire lives. To do that, our mindset must be right first. #DCmindsets
@EdelMeganSCES I relate to your fear, especially being just a couple of months away from being a dad. There’s a pressure that we have to be perfect at everything. I think social media does a lot of this because we constantly see others highlight reels and are left feeling inferior.
A4: The window shade analogy really spoke to me because it made me reflect on my own life and where I had sold myself short. I think the world would be much happier if we viewed life like a child, without limitations and with the shade open. #DCmindsets
A3: I think I’m guilty of giving too much extrinsic praise sometimes when I should be helping others develop intrinsic praise and motivation mindsets. I also feel like I don’t take a lot of risks & sometimes encourage others to do the same. #DCmindsets
@NatFlanagan85 I think we often forget just how much we have to be thankful for. It seems like older generations don’t compare themselves to others the way we sometimes do and that accounts for a lot of unhappiness in the world. Comparison is the thief of joy.
A2: My grandmother was one of the most positive people I’ve ever known. It wasn’t because of what she had or anything she had done, but simply because she chose to be happy. Even late in life when she had plenty to be sad about, she never chose to be. #DCmindsets
I’ll also add to this that the #1 thing I hear people say when remembering her is how positive she always was. Just a reminder that our attitude has a more positive impact on people’s memories than anything else sometimes.
@EdelMeganSCES And as a school we must create the mindset so that they hear that every day from every teacher if we expect it to become a natural way of thinking for students!
A1: I really like the window shade analogy in ch. 2. We have to teach Ss & ourselves to not sell ourselves short. We grow up putting limitations on ourselves and others with an “I can’t” attitude when we should have a “why not?” mindset. #DCmindsets
@j_carpentr TY Josh for your time & investment in #Culturize & this chat. Truly grateful. You are an example of what it means to be the change - to believe that you can bring a community of people together & inspire them to be more & do more than they ever thought possible. #CulturizeDawson
Unfortunately I won’t be able to join you all tonight due to a track meet, but I look forward to seeing your posts! Good luck with tonight’s chat and invite a friend! #culturizeDawson
@NatFlanagan85 I totally agree! Staying positive is completely in our control but it’s often one of the hardest things to do. Good is all around us, but we sometimes fail to notice it when we are focused on the negatives.
