5 tips for building class climate:
1) Talk to kids when they walk into class.
2) Learn 1 thing about each student.
3) If you have to get on to a kid, do it privately.
4) Apologize when needed.
5) Don’t take yourself too seriously.
@MrsSMobley Practicing before doing anything in front of a live audience is a great tip! Otherwise it's so easy for things to go wrong and you lose credibility...
@alli_kalal13 Love that shift in paradigm! You don't have to be the expert on everything at all times, often the best way to teach is being open to being taught
WU: The pace of technological innovation is faster than ever, so I think it’s crucial to teach our students that learning any particular tool is never as important as learning to be comfortable with new tools as they emerge and confident in their ability to adapt #tldeuno2022
@momarchs I've always hoped that technology will be something of an "equalizer" in bringing more opportunity in education which means that it needs to be able to provide genuine connection and collaboration
@brookerosener__ True, there's always going to be that "hot new trend" but we need to not keep changing for the sake of change but only if it will truly be helpful for our students
@brookerosener__ I'm always like "y'all... there's a much better way to do this" when I see them scroll through multiple pages of the class stream. But that's the "home page" so that's where the main attention goes
@MadieBrady_ This is a great response. I think too often the accessibility piece is overlooked but it is essential that you aren't advantaging some students based on the learning tools they can use. Motivation is huge too of course! Why use it otherwise?
@LortzKayla Very true! It is easy to get so excited about a tool that you would want to be using yourself that you don't realize that it may not fit your audience
A3: I think an important consideration is that it’s really important to keep the causal relationship between Ed Tech and learning in the correct order. The lesson goal is made and then the Ed Tech is chosen to help reach the goal, not the other way around. #tldeuno2022
@emauro25 Seconded on Google Workspace - I am using it constantly with all of the many apps it has. I even use Google Calendar to set up out of class appointments with students.
@LortzKayla Kahoot is a favorite among my students as well! If you can assign something a score where students can compete with their friends it seems they become approximately 1000% more interested
