DC charity serving our homeless friends in Dupont and Adams Morgan – providing food, clothing, healthcare & dignity. We humbly ask for your money and your time.
Due to the COVID-19 coronavirus, effective immediately Charlie's Place will halt our usual breakfast service for the next two weeks, and transition to a bagged meal distribution for our clients. Volunteers should not come to serve at Charlie's Place during this time. 1/3
Because our mission is to provide meals almost every day of the week, we happily accept perishable food items like sandwich ingredients as donations! #donations#homelessness#loveyourneighbor
Let this sink in: “For the first time since the government began doing the annual count, the number of single adults living outside — 209,413 — exceeded the number of individuals living in shelters — 199,478.” https://t.co/zyDAnJSChO
.@HUDgov’s 2020 #AHAR#PIT Part 1 report, released this morning, shows an alarming increase in overall #Homelessness since 2019 – and that’s before #COVID19 made the crisis worse.
HUD is fighting to #EndHomelessness and make housing a right.
We agree with @SecFudge when she says "As a nation, we have a moral responsibility to end homelessness, & we know how to do it"
@MayorBowser, if you agree, prove it in your upcoming budget by investing $100 million to end chronic homelessness for 3,100 households.
This is your periodic reminder that it is beyond f**ked up that homelessness exists.
Don't get used to seeing people sleeping outside. Don't think it is normal. Don't think it is inevitable.
Homelessness is a choice made by our elected officials, not by those experiencing it.

We’ve been sad to miss out on our usual gatherings for breakfast, and we’re looking forward to welcoming people back through our doors and having more opportunities to listen and learn from all our neighbors.
In his 2015 piece in the Atlantic, Ta-Nehisi Coates talks about the concept of “banishment,” the state our society ascribes to people who have been incarcerated even after their release, and how it can lead to or exacerbate homelessness. Find the piece on insta or the Atlantic.
