We're officially pausing the Charm Cities project. Technological, business, and personal life factors mean this is the right decision for now.
Thank you for your support so far. We'll be sure to let you know when we're ready to resume development.

Our latest project update is about the current status of Unity DOTS and what that means for Charm Cities, and sadly not really about Dot Warner at all.

I recently had the unexpected opportunity to explore which works better to rebuild a "Cities: Skylines" city: austerity or deficit spending? The answer may surprise you! (But it probably won't if you're at all familiar with the history of austerity.)

"A city like Ankh-Morpork was only two meals away from chaos at the best of times... It wasn’t a city, it was a process, a weight on the world that distorted the land for hundreds of miles around."

You're stuck indoors and all the non-evil craft stores are closed, but you can still help make something. Check out our latest project update for more!

I'd say my very favorite thing about game development is switching between Blender, Unity, and Google Earth, all of which use totally different control schemes for pan and orbit.
The Open Mobility Foundation, an open source foundation aiming to transform urban transportation planning, is looking for a Director of Open Source Operations. Full time, remote. Can't help but think that might be of interest to someone in our community...

Check it out! Phase One of the Charm Cities Project has begun! By the end of this phase, we're going to have an actual rudimentary city-builder game going!

@icculus We're in the planning stages of a new open-source city-builder game aiming to add real issues, including race, gender, and disability, into the genre.

Our next step is going to be taking all the great ideas that have been buzzing around our Discord and figuring out where they fit into this: critical elements that we need to address now, or things we can worry about later? After that, we make a road map... and then start coding!
Exciting news for month 2! We've put together a first draft of our minimum project requirements! This doesn't represent the total of what we're building, mind you - it's just the minimum requirements any game would need to have to still be "Charm Cities".

@IBJDPCNT643 @squineluft @ecotomaton@donoteat1 What a coincidence! We're putting together a community to create a new open-source city-builder game that actually does reflect real urban planning challenges! You should check us out: https://t.co/RtRZZ8t8QX
