The total population of blue crabs in the Chesapeake Bay has grown in the past year, and so did the population of juvenile blue crabs. Maryland DNR today announced the results of the Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab Winter Dredge Survey, a cooperative effort between DNR and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.
The survey estimated a total of 349 million blue crabs in the Chesapeake Bay in 2026, a 46% increase over the estimate of 238 million crabs last year. Scientists also estimated 228 million juvenile blue crabs, an increase of 121% from last year. This above-average abundance is a promising result to fisheries biologists, after what had previously been six consecutive years of below-average juvenile recruitment. The total abundance and juvenile abundance were at the highest levels since 2019.

In 2008 he manned a M240B in his vehicle while patrolling in Afghanistan and was ambushed. A Taliban RGP exploded inside his vehicle taking off his leg. His buddy applied a tunicate and he resumed firing 600 more rounds saving the column from destruction. Only then he received medical attention.
He represents a fourth-generation military family. He received his Navy Cross in front of his parents, older brother, both sets of grandparents and his pastor.

Crab Boat Fisherman on the Chesapeake Bay has an alarming discovery
“We're starting to see dead crab. Look at all this beautiful nice crabs. Dead. — Dead crabs, dead crabs, dead crabs”
“5 sewage treatment plants put hundreds of millions of gallons of wastewater into the bay every single day. This wastewater is full of nitrogen and phosphorus which causes algae blooms. When the algae dies, bacteria consumes the algae and also the oxygen in the water.
We get these huge dead zones in the bay. This year we had it all the way into five foot of water. It's killing crabs, it's killing fish, it wipes out the bottom. Oysters, clams, mussels, anything that can't run away and hide is killed because there's zero oxygen in the water.”
“When are we gonna do something about this?”
