If the Oilers are seriously considering Mike Babcock, it screams one thing:

DESPERATION.

This isn’t about whether Babcock can coach. His resume speaks for itself.

This is about everything that followed.

> The Mitch Marner ranking incident.
> The stories from Johan Franzen.
> The constant accusations from former players about manipulation, humiliation, and crossing personal boundaries.
> The Columbus situation that ended before he even coached a regular season game after the NHLPA got involved over player complaints. (NHL)

And now Edmonton is reportedly discussing him?

To me, that’s an organization feeling the pressure.

Connor McDavid still hasn’t won a Stanley Cup. Every year that passes without one brings more questions about his future. Whether that’s fair or not, the pressure is real.

When a franchise knows it cannot afford another failed season, sometimes it starts looking at options it never would’ve considered before.

Maybe Babcock deserves another chance.

Maybe he doesn’t.

But if the Oilers make this hire, it won’t feel like confidence.

It’ll feel like panic.
