@Williamtells7 @night_waker Correct some were obviously older but a lot younger too (in reserved occupations). The point is it was not a group made up exclusively of old men which seems to have been the narrative since the end of the war.

#OTD 86-years ago, War Minister Anthony Eden delivered his appeal to the country.

The avg age of the LDV/Home Guard was mid-30's - not the old men portrayed in Dad's Army, but an effective anti-invasion force, with previous military experience from the FWW just 22 years before.

In today's @Daily_Express covering the doc I made with Dan Snow & @HistoryHit it features the brilliant Ken Welch. The bunker he & his patrol operated in during the war has been found and we managed to get him there for the first time in 80 yrs! Thanks as always to @MattNixson
