Disaster Recovery Strategies:
1. 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘂𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲 → Regularly back up data and restore when disaster hits
RTO several hours to days, RPO last backup

2. 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 → Keep core systems on standby and spin up when needed
RTO minutes to hours, RPO depends on sync frequency

3. 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗯𝘆 → Maintain a smaller live copy that can scale up quickly
RTO minutes, RPO few minutes or hours

4. 𝗛𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝗲 → Both sites run actively for instant failover
RTO near zero, RPO few seconds

Let's explore ImageMaximumGCAge in Kubernetes. In 2 minutes.

It allows you to remove unused images on worker node. What are unused images?

Well, these are images that no container within any running pod are utilizing.

What's the problem with unused images?

Bro, seriously? Ok. In some scenarios, over time, many unused images can get accumulated on your worker node. They occupy disk space which is kind of waste.

The ImageMaximumGCAge (a kubelet) feature helps reclaim this space by automatically removing unused images.

It's default is "0s". Which means unused images won't be cleaned at all. Try setting it to 7 days. To clean things a bit.

I've learned it the hard ways! With Kubernetes it's not always learn and start. I suggest to start and learn parallelly.

Begin with minikube or Kind K8s cluster. Pairing it with focus, hard work and perseverance you can easily exceed expectations of yours & others. Thank You.

here are the key differences between DevOps, SRE, and platform engineering.

I'm keeping it simple for everyone to understand.

DevOps

Focus: Delivery
Goals: Deliver software quickly and safely.

SRE

Focus: Reliability
Goals: Maintain and improve the reliability of production systems.

Platform Engineering

Focus: Enhance developer experience
Goals: Provide a self-service platform for developers to build, deploy, and manage applications.
