Using AI to help me compile all of our end of year data. Once my free version of ChapGPT resets, I will add our other KPI’s. Anyways here is a rough draft of 1st hours strength testing data through the school year. If anyone has any tips/tricks to utilizing AI, I am all ears.
As an AD, one of the biggest challenges is understanding what athletes and parents truly want. Everyone says they want to win, but too often the communication I receive is centered around why practice is being missed, why workouts can’t happen, or why the commitment isn’t possible.
Winning is rarely about what happens on game day, it’s built in the unseen hours of preparation, consistency, and sacrifice. You cannot claim to want success while consistently avoiding the work required to achieve it.
Too often, “we want to win” really means “we want the rewards of winning without the discomfort of earning it.” When that gap exists, the blame often shifts to the coach instead of the habits.
Great programs are built when athletes, parents, and coaches all align in understanding that commitment comes before results. Wanting to win and being willing to do what it takes to win are two very different things.
Some days when people “ask for my thoughts” I just want to reply with:
“Do 5 days a week 3x10 body part split and run the timed mile everyday for team sports on top of 500 daily plyo contacts.”
Because, despite asking, a lot of people don’t want to hear your thoughts, they want you to validate theirs.
Just a little over a week away from our first middle school strength & conditioning camp. The goal is to establish long term athletic development 7th through 12th grade. To all my Highland East and Central junior high parents, I encourage you to get your kids signed up.
If a school wants to add performance training into the school day, here’s how to do it right.
✅ S&C coach
✅ Schedule whole teams in one period
✅ Head coaches present for their team’s lift
✅ Non-athletes get their own period. Only allowed in athletic periods with permission
Weather rolling through Oklahoma. Schedules changing, games getting moved. What do Baseball, Soccer, and T&F do on days like today? Yoga, we do Yoga.
The weight room is the most influential room in a school.
It’s not a place to hang out — it’s a classroom.
A place where habits are built, standards are set, and character is developed.
It is said that the bison is the only animal to turn and face a storm. To get through the blizzard faster. To not hide. To face difficult times head on. To meet the moment.
For the moment is all we have.
“If you’re a high school athlete you better be lifting year round. You’re competing with transfer portal athletes who train 48 weeks a year. You’re a baseball player who lifts for 3 months in the off season then says “I have travel ball” or “I’m not lifting in season” you are already behind. Lifting is the X factor for baseball players”
