@chocogirlcat@KarenUlrich_DID@karenmitchell__ I wonder how the Double Empathy Problem affects allistics' abilities to sense the energy and presence of autistic people accurately, given the data on underrating of autistic sadness and happiness and exaggerated bodily reaction to autistic expressions of anger and distress.
@PaulaHigson@NeilMcMahon Are you maybe interpreting the "normalise this please" as having come from a boss?
I think it's a request/appeal Neil is making to all of us here on twitter and our culture in general.
The lack of quotes is what tipped me off, but I can totally understand the confusion.
Lectures and silence. I'm still aghast at the silence of Western scholars of genocide and war, whose comparative expertise would be useful now, but who refuse to speak about Gaza. It's been eight months. There's no conclusion other than they countenance genocide of Palestinians.
@laurenancona I much prefer longer stories that allow me to get to know the world and characters better and to see character growth. 2 hrs is nothing.
More options for entertainment just means ppl choose what works best for them. Anyone upset about this is harboring autocratic tendencies, lol
@laurenancona Add the risk of Covid on top of it?
Hell no, I'm not even going to tolerate the experience anymore for the sake of spending time with someone who really enjoys going to the movies (as I did before Covid).
I feel like the results graph they have in this paper shows exactly why autistic people are received as hostile when they are upset -
The people with lower AQ Quotient scores *reacted very intensely* to anger and fear in the autistic video.
So our cues must be amplified in NTs.
@nubbinsmcgee @AutSciPerson I'm pretty scared to get boosted again too. My 2nd moderna booster put my MCAS into overdrive. I've had to upend my diet (only 2 safe proteins now), find the right combo of MC stabilizing supplements, double and triple up on (H1, H2) antihistamines, + put life on hold for 1.5yr.
@THEDawno64@chronicallybeee The really wild thing is that everyone would likely be healthier if we guaranteed everyone's basic needs get met and reduced working hours to less than 20 hrs per week. Why aren't we talking about how to make that happen instead of trying to blame folks for developing cancer?
@Abnorlrela2@Pancreassassin Not sure what you mean by "covidians"... people who read the research, understand the uncertainty, and take precautions until we have more data?

@ChrisPalmerMD@Lau_Cob_@teriac Institutions (merriam-webster, etc.) are quite slow to change and therefore shitty at adapting to new paradigms and their corresponding language.
The definitions @Lau_Cob_ shared are the most accurate.
Wow double empathy neuroimaging
Dyads of partners high on autistic traits “displayed enhanced interpersonal neural synchronization during social communications measured by functional near-infrared spectroscopy, suggesting an effective communication style” https://t.co/06uMHZtHYS
@rbradbrown@ninaturner The funny thing about all this is that in many academic circles the chair position is often rotated through tenured faculty with great frequency. At my school, in my department, it was a 3 year rotation - most of the tenure track faculty took a turn, if they could be convinced.
@hcetamd@laurenancona If we consider Terra Vance's Autistic Identity hypothesis, then the identity benefits that allistics gain for maintaining one's social connections through routine inauthenticity aren't ever going to materialize for autistics - which is like a double hit to the autistic self.
🗓️#OTD in 1970, students at Kent State University were massacred by National Guard troops while peacefully protesting against US imperialist war in Southeast Asia.
Hear Ken Hammond, a PSL member who was a student leader in the anti-war protests at Kent State, speak on the similarity of that historic moment to today’s mass student movement for Palestine.
