@ItsnotrightUK@drmattuk Please can you source your numbers. I can’t find the hourly rates in the orange box and I can’t see how they relate to the annual salaries
@NeilMcMahon So my interpretation of Neil’s question is that Neil’s boss has asked for something. The 3 word request is abrupt and rude. Not the way a colleague should be treated. used to write similar emails when busy and focused but would then insert my manners.
@Ask_foradoctor @DrEilidhMaria Thank you for great debate @Ask_foradoctor and @DrEilidhMaria have I have enjoyed it and have a deeper understanding of the issues
@Ask_foradoctor How about “Hello, my name is Jon Smith - I am a physician associate. I support the doctors here in the diagnosis and management of patients”
@Ask_foradoctor @DrEilidhMaria What is your evidence? The problem I have with trading anecdotes is that GPs also get things wrong. The NHS as a whole is full of tragic cases that are costing £2.7 billion a year. Where is the quality assurance of any clinical role. (CQC inspection is not quality assurance)
@Ask_foradoctor @DrEilidhMaria No. I am asking who is trying to find appropriate solutions to this seemingly unexpected and unprecedented problem. Are you saying that no newly qualified GP would want to work overseas (among a whole set of possible solutions) for a year while this unholy mess is sorted out?
@Ask_foradoctor @DrEilidhMaria Is the BMA GPC challenging this subsidisation of new roles while there are qualified GPs without work? Some might work overseas in countries where we have previous taken their trained doctors Other schemes to help keep them qualified and useful?!
@Ask_foradoctor @DrEilidhMaria I fully understand the complexity of diagnosis. In my case this took blood and other tests requested by PA; endoscopy: GP; ultrasound: surgeon; removal and biopsy: surgeon. I still contend that the PA ordered the correct set of initial
tests
@DrEilidhMaria This is a worry. If hospitals are able to roster in people unqualified for the work they are being asked to do this needs to be tackled. But not by being rude about the people. Tackle the safety governance. This is a key role for the hospital board. But has to be evidenced
@Ask_foradoctor @DrEilidhMaria This is where I don’t agree. In my experience they augment the work of the GP - by doing some of their work - yes - but nowhere near all of it. The RCGP say we need 6.000 more GPs. We are not going to get that number for many years. Unless we steal them from other nations
