@fantasticarg3@CircuitHive@sumitroy2 What he really wants is to morph from “slave” to Master. To consume instead of produce. I take satisfaction in being a part of marketing a product. Money is great, but I’ve lived long enough to know it’s a path to a greater purpose.
@fantasticarg3@CircuitHive@sumitroy2 He has a family - a spouse, more accurately- for now. She’s clearly frustrated with the situation, probably because she has some altruistic ambitions that don’t interest him.
@fantasticarg3@CircuitHive@sumitroy2 And you project - impose, really - your value on hedonism as the ultimate goal. It’s egocentric, really, and that doesn’t mean it’s wrong. It’s human tendency.
@FloraLuzz_ He was the worst, overtaking Jimmy Carter at the bottom of the greatness rankings.
(Undertaking? It’s a race to the bottom, so I think I was right the first time.)
@fantasticarg3@CircuitHive@sumitroy2 I could try telling the 1619 crowd that I, too, am a slave because I am paid by an employer, and therefore exempt from contributing to their reparations panacea. I don’t think it would go well.
@fantasticarg3@CircuitHive@sumitroy2 I understand the term. I just think it trivializes a truly abhorrent social construct of one societal group treating another as property.
@fantasticarg3@CircuitHive@sumitroy2 Hedonism may be enticing in the short term, but I think in the longer term it leads to emptiness. I did not feel a strong urge to have a family in my 20’s but now my children and grandchildren are very important to me.
@fantasticarg3@CircuitHive@sumitroy2 He did not accumulate enough wealth to retire at 41 by being a wage slave. The money gives him the freedom to chose the “next act”. If he’s chosen gaming and it makes him boring to his wife, that’s the trade-off. Maybe another pursuit would improve his relationship.
@sumitroy2 Good discussion. Plenty of good points on both sides. It’s really an issue where couples need to agree on what they want life to look like and how to achieve it.
@CircuitHive@sumitroy2 I think a sense of drive, purpose and ambition makes a person more interesting and enjoyable to hang with.
He has achieved great things. But he’s lost what made him interesting.
The losers on Amazon Prime pesos tried to cut Caitlin Clark down on her defense. Clark is a 6’0 and she’s 2nd in DREB 1st in Steals and Blocks on her team.
Let’s put the “Clark’s poor defense” conversation to rest.
@Likeshesays It’s peak TDS - because President Trump did it, it’s bad. I don’t always agree with what he does, but he often does the right things! This was one of them.
