@CariMarshallTX@SenatorWarnock That is correct!! 4 million people nationwide will get coverage for the first time! It's only authorized through 2025, however, so lots of work to do in the future.
Policies are necessary but they must be humane. Proud to co-author with @CheastyAnderson, a terrific writer. Thanks also to Tatiana Londoño and Jamie Turcios-Villalta.
In a policy brief released this week, @CDFTexas's @CheastyAnderson and @TexasSteveHicks's Dr. Luis H. Zayas highlight the long-lasting harm inflicted on children and families through the abusive, traumatic, and dehumanizing practice of family detention: https://t.co/w9OjnsuueR
Whoa. This is a first to my knowledge—the property owners of detention center (who lease it to a private prison company) suing to terminate the lease.
Big developments for ICE detention in NJ going on right now. Feels like a dam has finally burst.
Great news that DHS has officially withdrawn the Trump-era "Affidavit of support" proposal, which like the public charge would have made immigration more difficult—here, by making it harder for US citizens who receive means-tested benefits to sponsor a family member.
The 7th Circuit just dismissed the appeal of the public charge ruling that vacated the rule, and let the mandate issue. That means the lower court's decision goes into place immediately.
That is officially it! The public charge rule is dead and gone. 🎊
This is a great article showing that while the state of Texas is apparently abandoning any role in the safe processing of asylum seekers, local communities are stepping up.
Per @RepEscobar: "Plans are in place for each migrant to be tested and quarantined if they test positive."
There are literally no caravans. The last one to leave Honduras in early January was broken up in Guatemala 2,000 miles from the US border and before Biden even took office. Since then, there haven't been any.
But of course facts aren't the point. Xenophobic fearmongering is.
🚨BREAKING: Today, the Biden administration agreed to end all SCOTUS appeals of the previous administration’s #PublicCharge ‘wealth test’, which targeted low-income immigrants and their families. This paves the way for ending this dangerous & racist rule.

Millions of people cross borders into our country daily with no #COVID19 screening requirement. But asylum seekers? Rejected under Trump-era CDC policy Title 42. Migrants expelled daily under guise of health safety. This racist manipulation of fear must be rescinded! #EndTitle42
New this AM — The US government is set to start allowing some asylum-seekers who were required to wait in Mexico under a Trump-era border program to enter the US so they can complete their immigration proceedings on American soil.

Great news that the administration appears poised to finally make an announcement about what's going to happen for those in MPP! Hearing that the official announcement could come later today or tomorrow.
