@FursieRS6 @matt_dathan I left the UK earning less than that, with my French wife, 5 years ago. I now live in the EU with my wife and our two dual-national children. Policies such as this, and the desire to raise the threshold to £38k mean that we will probably never return. Is this a good thing?

@ShawnRiegsecker @thehistoryguy The Roman republic was, perhaps, another such era, of course notable for being firmly anti-monarchist. Now even our kings are ashamed to look like kings. Which is a shame, because when monarchs dress properly, the effect is glorious.

@ShawnRiegsecker @thehistoryguy Curiously enough, the last 100 years is one of the only times in history when powerful men have not sought to dress extravagantly in order to impress upon others their status. It was done by many up until WWI - look at Kaisers Wilhelm and Franz-Josef.
