On @MeetThePress 7/13 k noem:
‘We’re only going after the worst of the worst’
And also
About the people they’re rounding up: ‘the best thing is for them and their families to self deport and come back the right way. We’d welcome them.’
So…not criminals, not worst of the worst
Anyone who is blaming this on Biden or Obama is an intellectually dishonest twatwaffle. Obama was the one that got Iran to the table to begin with.
The Obama administration signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) or the "Iran Nuclear Deal" with Iran and the P5+1 (US, UK, France, Russia, China, Germany) that put verifiable safeguards on Iran's nuclear program while still allowing them to enrich uranium for civilian purposes.
The JCPOA capped their uranium enrichment at 3.67%. - far below the 90% weapons grade threshold.
It also limited them to only using IR-1 (old model) centrifuges at Natanz and prevented them from enriching at all at Fordow.
The Fordow and Natanz restrictions lasted for 15 years, so they would have sunset in 2031 — far beyond what this damage has set them back.
They also filled the core of the Arak Heavy Water Reactor with concrete to permanently prevent it from being used to produce plutonium.
All facilities were subject to 24/7 remote monitoring and pop up inspections.
It was working—as confirmed by the US intelligence community, our allies, and the IAEA—and Trump tore it up in 2018. Many at the time (including myself) predicted that this would lead to war with Iran and/or putting Iran on the track to a nuclear weapon, and here we are.
I know you mouthbreathing morons are already prepared to “but the pallets of cash!!” me, but the fact of the matter is that this crisis was entirely caused by Donald Trump being determined to destroy Obama’s legacy.
Well, that and Trump being easily manipulated by Netanyahu. But I digress.
I’ve seen @ChrisMurphyCT speak, and I can honestly say that he was made for this moment. He’s a badass, he’s a leader, and he is exactly the kind of fighter we need right now.
This is excellent work by Van Hollen.
To be very clear for the people who are going to try to spin this negatively:
Legal deportation is not the issue here.
The issue is adherence to the rule of law, a lack of due process, and the willful refusal to follow court orders.
Did Kristi Noam just say we’ve already had illegal aliens held at Guantanamo? (Also noting all the questions she’s not answering or skirting at best.) #MTP#meetthepress
@ABC@ThisWeekABC PLEASE remove reince prebus from your panel. He’s a one-note shrill voice. He’s offensive - he continually interrupts Donna Brazile - I want to hear what she says, and he is SO rude and nasty. Makes the round table unwatchable.
How to keep democracy alive in 2025:
1. Be Brave. Avoid helpless/hopeless talk. Authoritarians want you to feel powerless because it makes their work easier. Courage, faith, and optimism are essential. Fascism feeds on cynicism and pessimism. Starve it.
For those white liberals talking about how they're "mourning," "in shock," and afraid...FFS buck up. I was just in KC at the 17th Annual Urban Summit, w/ a couple hundred Black folk and they are NOT crying or cowering. They are down to fight, like they've always had to. A 🧵...
