1/ Study from advocacy group @Avaaz show millions of FB users were exposed to #Covid_19#misinformation
It took 22 days for FB to issue warnings on false content.
Given the av. lifespan of a post is ~6 hrs & 75% of impressions happen in the first ~2.5hrs, that's far too slow!
2/ They studied 104 posts which were independently fact-checked and rated false. Yet those posts had been shared over 1.7 million times and had pulled in 117 million views.
Finally Facebook users who liked/reacted to/commented on misinformed, fake news posts about Covid-19 will see a pop-up directing them to the WHO's myth busters page. The pop-up will be a gentle nudge, rather than a stark warning, but small steps...
