@ericweinstein To be fair, 55 years is about when the policy was "get a degree no matter what", resulting in a glut of available people (many of whom talented, but also many of whom mediocre) driving down wages.
@Sargon_of_Akkad This is surprising? It's well known that men can live in a cardboard box if it has wifi, not surprising they'll stay where lodging is the least expensive even if literally "parents basement".
@ehbsea@DrockShank@jmbprime@grok That's based on a single month of GDP growth, largely from seasonal adjustment and government spending. Canada's GDP is nearly 50% government spending at this point.
It'd be good if we manage to eke out a full quarter of growth (unlike the last two) but at this point it's not.
@gator_gum Perhaps, once.
Now they're mostly touted as values only for appearances. Performative compassion. High-visibility generosity.
In reality, the main undercurrent is peevish nihilism, learned helplessness, and a sympathy towards tyranny... and hate. Lots of openly declared hate.
@CukovicDavor@_InfoGram_ We're not in the middle of trade talks. We have people there, talking, but not the same.
The talks are happening entirely without Canada at the table, at least when it comes to our local trade bloc.
The US and Mexico have been making a fair bit of progress though, I've heard.
@BoomerWatchWW@Sargon_of_Akkad Speaking to you at the level you've earned. Your assertion is just dishonest, and you are dishonest person for making it.
I do understand why you're so desperate to extract value from other people though... there apparently nothing of value to be gained from you.
*plonk*
@BoomerWatchWW@Sargon_of_Akkad Caught in falsehood and your instinct is point a finger rather than admit that you lied. Sadly predictable, I suspect you're congenitally incapable of taking accountability.
Bottom line is your assertion is blatantly false: millions would not in fact die.
Lie somewhere else.
@BoomerWatchWW@Sargon_of_Akkad I understand your "point". It's simply a dishonest one, and you are a dishonest person.
Here's the truth to the welfare state:
You don't pay them to "not die".
You pay them to "not burn everything".
It's the modern Danegeld.
@BoomerWatchWW@Sargon_of_Akkad ... relevant to your bullshit claim how, exactly? If I said I earn $1,000 a day, would it make your "millions will die" claim any more truthful?
No, it wouldn't. You're just a liar, trying to deflect from your lies when called out.
Do better.
@BoomerWatchWW@Sargon_of_Akkad "Austerity" meaning limited, not non-existant like it is for the $10/day-and-less people.
- Clean water & sanitation
- Slow but available health care
- Operational emergency services
- Foodbanks etc
... all those things provided, and they STILL need $100/day or they die?
lolno
@BoomerWatchWW@Sargon_of_Akkad Nonsense. The bulk of the planet's population lives on less than $10 a day. Your claim that in a country with abundant social services like health, water, sanitation etc if they don't get $100/day millions will die is just... a lie, flat out.
You are a liar.
Be better.
@amanobviously It's not the internet. It's:
- lowest gdp/capital in the g7
- fewest hospital beds/longest wait times
- nearly 50% of gdp is govt spending
- "new canadians" getting 'aid' that's 200%+ the median wage
Internet didn't do that, just made us aware.
@kevlap017 There was literally a dude who met a doctor at a tim hortons who not only convinced him to MAID because of his Crohns, he ended up driving the guy to get it done. Advocacy really does happen.

@yves_farges@_InfoGram_ The US imports Canadian oil not because they need it: their domestic production will cover US needs for the next 2 centuries on shale oil alone, not even counting natural gas.
Candian oil is imported because the US has refineries to handle the grade we extract. Canada doesn't.
@_InfoGram_ Personally I think Carney's position is goofy unless he's literally trying to engineer a deep recession and handoff of Canadian sovereignty to one or both of europe and china.
He's certainly not made any *actual* moves that are positively affecting outcomes for Canadians.
@paleochristcon Like most wars, it would come down to logistics.
Who needs more support to remain at or near peak operation in country? Who can plan, route, schedule and supply better? Who can do the forward engineering and refit to maintain materiel effectiveness?
@lady_valor_07 Of course.
But then, I'd choose my dogs over most anyone regardless of their refugee status. Dogs are awesome and do nothing but add value to my life.
