~55K PhD’s are awarded in the US yearly
~5% of those PhD’s are chemistry
>2% of those are African American
I don’t say this to harp on the problem (which there is of course). I say this to say, I’m thankful for where I am, for who stood by me, and who helped me grow. I’m unique.
Yeah I'm a PhD student. And I also:
•Don't know where my keys are
•Haven't drank any water today
•Keep forgetting my lunch at home
•Will cry over anything
Am I actually an adult or am I three kids in a trench coat? Honestly who knows.

PhD Student ➡️ PhD Candidate
Passed my oral qualifying exam yesterday morning! 🎉🎉🎉 Thanks to everyone who helped me prepare and gave me feedback - looking forward to actually doing all that stuff I proposed now. :)
What do you think is the most important thing a university can do to support its PhD students who are working from home?🤔

every time you take one step forward, your perspective changes. you see different opportunities. you recognize situations that you’ve outgrown.
you don’t need to hit a home run right now—you just need to take the next step forward.
