Apple and Google are building age verification into your phone's operating system.

In April 2026 Apple expanded its Verify with Wallet API. your iPhone's digital ID linked to your US passport can now verify your age for apps and websites not just at airport TSA checkpoints. anywhere that asks.

Google's Digital Credentials API is already live for Android and Chrome.

US senators introduced the Digital Age Assurance Act of 2026. it would require every smartphone user to register their age with Apple or Google. one signal. transmitted silently to apps and websites that need to know.

the pitch: instead of every website collecting your ID or face scan individually, the OS checks once and sends a yes/no signal. no passport copies scattered across 500 databases. no selfies stored by porn sites. one verified age signal from the company that already knows everything about you.

the infrastructure being built can transmit any attribute they verify. age. citizenship. location. identity.

the EU calls it an "identity-mediated internet architecture" where digital environments are configured around verified user attributes before any interaction occurs.

that is a precise description of what is being built.

and it's being framed as a children's safety measure.

The Internet Archive is offline following a power failure, taking down access to the main site and its Wayback Machine.

It's hard to overstate this site's importance. It has preserved over 1 trillion web pages, creating a permanent history for an web that constantly deletes its own past. Websites vanish, companies wipe pages, governments edit documents, politicians delete statements, news outlets alter stories, and social posts disappear.

The Wayback Machine lets journalists, researchers, lawyers, OSINT analysts, and the public retrieve earlier versions to verify what was published at any given time.

Without independent archives, whoever controls a website controls its history. The Internet Archive prevents that, making it one of the most vital public resources online. Hope it's back up soon.
