I met President @williamsruto of Kenya for the first time on the sidelines of the G7 Summit.
Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1964, Korea and Kenya have built a strong partnership across a wide range of fields. Our meeting provided a valuable opportunity to explore ways to further advance bilateral relations.

As one of Korea’s key partners in East Africa, Kenya plays an important role in our engagement with the region. We agreed to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation in areas including trade and investment, critical minerals, infrastructure, development cooperation, science, and ICT.

Having visited Korea twice, President Ruto places great importance on cooperation with Korea and expressed keen interest in our journey from the devastation of war to economic growth and development.

Building on the trust and friendship we have cultivated over the years, I look forward to further deepening exchanges and cooperation between our two countries.

My statement on today's agreement between the United States and Iran.

Je salue l’accord conclu entre les États-Unis et l’Iran, fruit d’un effort diplomatique auquel ont contribué plusieurs partenaires. J’appelle à sa mise en œuvre rapide et complète par tous les belligérants.

Cet accord doit permettre la réouverture urgente et inconditionnelle du détroit d’Ormuz, que la mission internationale mise en place avec le Royaume-Uni est prête à accompagner. Les moyens sont en place et prêts à être engagés. La reprise du trafic maritime, sans restriction ni péage, est une condition indispensable à la stabilité régionale et à l’économie mondiale.

Cet accord ouvre également la voie à une négociation globale au service de la paix et de la sécurité de tous au Moyen-Orient. Celle-ci devra permettre de répondre aux préoccupations liées aux programmes nucléaire et balistique de l’Iran, ainsi qu’à sa politique de déstabilisation régionale. C’est ainsi que nous pourrons bâtir une paix solide et durable. La France est disposée à y prendre toute sa part, aux côtés de ses partenaires.

Elle continuera également à apporter son plein soutien aux efforts déterminés des autorités libanaises pour restaurer la souveraineté de l’État, qui est le seul à même d’assurer la stabilité et l’intégrité territoriale du Liban et de répondre aux besoins des populations. Un cessez-le-feu robuste et durable est pour cela indispensable.

Le Canada salue le nouvel accord conclu entre les États-Unis et l’Iran. Nous remercions le Pakistan, le Qatar et les autres partenaires de la région pour le rôle indispensable qu’ils ont joué dans ces négociations.  

Le Canada a clairement affirmé qu’un cessez-le-feu durable doit à la fois garantir la traversée sûre et sans entrave du détroit d’Ormuz et contrer la menace omniprésente que constitue le programme nucléaire iranien.   

Pendant que les négociations se poursuivent, nous exhortons toutes les parties à dialoguer de bonne foi et à éviter l’escalade du conflit. Le Canada reste en contact étroit avec ses partenaires et se tient prêt à appuyer tout effort visant à apporter la stabilité et la paix durable dans la région, y compris au Liban.
