@WesWeeklySays I’m calling for Landau to have the first camera placed on front of his house, so we can catch him giving rides to children on his golf cart on town roads.
This was proposed to make money for the town. Selectman Landau proposed placing cameras on these roads to prove the case of through trucking. He can go FLOCK himself with his Orwellian proposal.
Property tax isn't a fee for service. It's a penalty for owning a nicer home.
Three houses on the same road. Same fire truck. Same sheriff. Same snowplow.
One pays $5,000. One pays $2,500. One pays $1,250.
If it were a fee for service, they'd all pay the same. They don't. Because it was never about services.
A Bonner County woman's family has owned their property for 116 years. The house never burned down. Most of those decades, no kids in school. But the bill went up every single year.
Property tax is a penalty for owning property the market decided is worth more. There is no fairness in that system.
Idaho has the revenue to fund services without it. I'm fighting to eliminate it entirely.
@603IronMarshal There is constant and coordinated messaging from school boards and teachers unions that all issues are because of state funding. It’s a great way for SAUs to point the finger and take no responsibility
@travis4nh I’ve used a similar argument when petitioning SB2 in town; why do boards and committees need a quorum to make a decision, but 5% of registered voters can raise taxes by a hand count or voice vote on an entire town?
@travis4nh In 2021 about 40 people raised taxes for a town of 5,000 people by a voice vote at the school meeting. The school was closed for the kids, but they opened it so they could pass their budget, and the school board present themselves an award
@davec_NH Chester has its own SAU and now has its own full time superintendent for one k-8 school in a small town. This was not voted in by the town, in fact many spoke against it. But, the board just rolled it into the budget, leaving the voter out of the decision.
